Hey guys, we did a big long new blog post in response to people being confused about whether VTC5's are discontinued or not, with data and pictures. Thought you all might want to see it.

Check it out here: authentic VTC5 data and markings.

Also we posted the full VTC5 specification which might be interesting for some of you

Mods, I'm pretty sure this post is helpful enough to be here but if not let me know and I'll take it down right away, thanks :)

This is a very good and informative post. I had heard from several sources that Sony (appearing in an email ostensibly sent from a Sony rep) is no longer making vtc batteries at all. During the period where they were unavailable (and I'm sure this will continue) it was very common for counterfeiters to re-wrap Panasonic batteries as vtc's. I myself am using a Samsung 25r5 atm, but I may pick up a vtc from you guys at some point. Thank you for this post.

Yep, people were rewrapping all kinds of things back then. We were continually on the lookout for factories that had authentic stock and constantly buying and testing and it was all over the place. Was a scary time. We found everything from panasonic batteries, to Samsung 25Rs, to chinese batteries, and even some sony vtc3's (at least this one was safe since it's a 30A battery....just wouldn't last very long). The really scary ones were the trustfires, etc, that were rewrapped.
