Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most highly anticipated movie of the year, which has been proven by demand for the film seemingly causing several theater websites to crash.

Box offices began offering Spider-Man: No Way Home tickets at midnight on November 29, but while some early customers were able to get their tickets without a hitch, ticket-selling sites soon began to struggle. According to comicbook.com, theater websites began crashing within minutes, with AMC, Regal, and Fandango succumbing to demand. Alamo Drafthouse soon followed, with most other ticketing and movie theater websites struggling to keep up.

Although most began to come back online eventually, websites are still grappling with the high volume of users, with the likes of AMC adding a queuing system to help cope with the influx of customers.

It may be annoying for customers, but demand for Spider-Man: No Way Home is encouraging when it comes to the box office. The film industry hasn’t seen this kind of demand since 2019, with the release of Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now, it looks as though demand for Spider-Man: No Way Home could be rivalling that of pre-pandemic movies. And this could mean the latest Spidey flick is on course for a very strong opening.

According to a survey by Marcus Theatres, Spider-Man: No Way Home is the most anticipated movie of the 2021 holiday season, with 63% of people calling the upcoming superhero flick a must-see. “The holidays are here and going to the theatre is an annual tradition for so many families," said Marcus Theatres CEO Rolando Rodriguez.

“In fact, an overwhelming 97% of survey respondents said they intended to visit a movie theatre by January 1. This isn't a surprise, especially this year as reconnecting with one another is incredibly important and movies have a way of bringing us together. Plus, the movie slate is as strong as ever.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home saw a huge surge of interest after the release of its official trailer, with fans eager to see whether or not former Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would be revealed. Unfortunately, Marvel still won’t confirm whether they make an appearance in the movie.
