Spotify is planning to move beyond streaming audio and introduce streaming video to the service, as well.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the music-streaming company has been in talks with companies involved with content creation for YouTube. The talks revolve around Spotify's interest in acquiring material and co-creating original web series, the report states.
The company could announce its video plans as early as this month. It has a media event planned for May 20 in New York City, saying nothing more than "we've got some news."
Spotify has shifted the focus of digital music from full song downloads and music-radio station formats like Pandora to an all-access, full-album streaming solution.
