I’m very new to vaping SS... is it normal for atomizers to get hotter with SS coils compared to Kanthal/Nichrome?

Kanthal cools down faster, afaik. But, your big issue is always going to be the power you are pumping into the atomizer.

I almost never use Kanthal any more, because I can substitute SS in most builds with almost the same mass, plus switch between VW and TC modes until I find what tastes best. On the Hussar and Taifun Gt3, this is around 18w and 0.4Ω (single coil); on the Boreas v2 clone, I'm down around 0.1Ω (dual coil) and pushing maybe 60w. On the Haku-clone and Wasp Nano, (single coil), I'm about 0.4Ω, and under 35w (according to the Gbox 200).

NOTE: the RDA's will definitely get hotter as I vape, as they've far less mass than the Taifun or Hussar. The Boreas is definitely warm to the touch as well, but - power. Even older designs like the Ithaka/Hercules/Terminator-c/Nautilus/Odysseus are so heavy that the body of the tank would start to hold the heat as well, and we usually vaped them around 18-25w

Ramp time also plays into it. Ni80 ramps faster than ss so you tend to not pull as hard or as long. Learning to use tc will help a bit with heat.

Yeah, been forever since I tried ni80. But, for absolutely sure RAMP up... More mass? More time/power.

heh.. I had a tiny little 30awg SS coil in the DNA, swapped cells went to fire - forgot the load-up time - POP! Blew the coil. (Oh yeah, that's set for a 75w preheat...)

I just installed a ss 26/38 clapton and ramp is killing me. Going to have to break down and go into escripe to set up a harder ramp (DNA 200). Yet on my other Nano I installed a tri core fc and ramp is great with no pre heat needed, wires are much thinner tho. Sometimes I wonder why I love ss so much better than kanthal or Ni80.

No nasty metal taste maybe?
LOL Oh yeah that was why I switched to ss. When i use the Fireluke it takes about half a tank to get used to the kanthal taste. Probably why I only run a few refills thru it and then put it up for a while.

I’m not vaping it in TC... I’m using it in replay on dna25c.

It’s the same coils I use all the time except one extra wrap and .5mm bigger ID. I did the same exact build with Nichrome to see how it compared and the atty was definitely not getting hot.

"except" - if they are not the identical coil you set REPLAY on, then they simply won't work the same.

Only the gods know wtf Evolv is coding against, but you can't just swap out the wick & coil.

30g wrapping wire? My God that is insanely fat for wrapping wire and is the source of your issues. Wrapping wire that fat takes way too long to ramp up and retains a shit load of heat, hell 32g is even too fat. The fattest I'll use is 36g, I mostly use 38g - 44g wrapping wire.

@r055co That happens to be exactly what folks like Geekvape are using.

I know it sounds far too fat, but there yah go - chinee wire ;-)

Replay only works if at least one wire in the coil is tc compatible.

I didn’t vape the Nichrome in replay. I was vaping it just to get a comparison on how hot the RDAs got. The SS build made the RDA MUCH hotter... that’s why I’m asking if this is a known fact among the people who vape SS

I use ss exclusively to build with and even at 60-75w (staggard fc) my rdas don't get hot, just warm.

Well that explains it then.;)

Well no, not really... like I said my Nichrome build (same as SS) didn’t get the RDA hot. That’s why I’m asking if SS tends to make the RDA hotter then non-temp coils.

Just teasing. Ni80 has a much quicker ramp and cool down. It really is just that simple.
