The Friday before the broadcast network Upfronts is a very big day of highs and lows in Hollywood, as a lot of new shows get ordered, several series get last minute renewals and the producers of several other shows get the bad news that their series are cancelled. Battle Creek is the latest among the cancellations, as CBS has ended the quirky new crime drama after just one season.
On paper, Battle Creek was a home run - pairing executive producers Vince Gilligan (the creator of Breaking Bad) with David Shore (the creator of House, who served as showrunner) and boasting a pilot directed by X-Men's Bryan Singer. But on a network known for bringing in big audiences, very few tuned into Battle Creek, which had an uphill battle as a more offbeat series surrounded by more straight forward cop and procedural series - a couple of exceptions like The Good Wife and Person of Interest aside.
