Marvel has already proven itself capable of delivering Star Wars comics that faithfully replicate the tone and spirit of the Original Trilogy. But that alone isn't enough. These comics also need to show a willingness to push boundaries and subvert expectations of what a Star Wars comic can be. All the more since, for now, these comics are locked within a pretty narrow time period. That's why Darth Vader #5 is such a welcome sight. The twists Kieron Gillen delivers in this issue may not be to everyone's taste, but at least this series is striving to do something new and different with the license.
