Is there a tutorial anywhere that explains how to make clapton and Fused claptons with Steam Engine? Im trying to get an idea what my end coil will be but I dont think I have the right settings in there for claptons and fused claptons. I know they have this neat feature where you can share a link with all the information in there and all the user has to do is enter in the correct ID and guage. Can Anyone help?

Okay..For anything and everything just use what cores your using for the specs in Steam. Thats what matters in overall resistance as the outerwrap's resistance doesnt register on the mods we own since it would be in the 15.0-30.0 ohm range. If your doing fused claptons then treat it like a Parallel/Twisted round wire build and select that option.

Right next to the metal type is the option, leave "twist pitch" at 0, then choose how many cores you are using under "number of strands".

The outerwrap wont change resistance enough to notice, even different metal types wont change anything if using cores for TC mode. A SS Cored/Kanthal Wrapped Fused Clapton will still function in TC mode just fine.

Use the wire wizard on steam engine. It has options for claptons.

Twisted and parallel will have slightly different resistance. Use parallel for fused claptons. Resistance will be negligably different than fused.

I also use the "vape tool" app on my phone. Has options for fused claptons.

Steam Engine is a guideline only. The coil wrapping tab is utilized, to figure out a coil's specification. The wire wizard is mainly utilized, in order to get the TFR/TCR of a coil, in order to set the proper settings in your mod (except the Sigelei 130).

I do just as Ray says. Just plug in the cores and ignore the wrap. Built two sets of Claptons, 2x24ss/34ss and 2x24ss/28ka1. same coils, 3mmid 6 wraps and they were the same resistance on my meter.

Thank you all. Thanks @Whiskey for getting this going. Thanks @raymo2u for explaining. @BKTOAD I tried that also but ended up with diff results on the coil wrapping tab vs Wire wizard. I have that app also and its close to steam engine but its a bit off on the number of wraps for the same fused clapton coil.

What did they come out to?

Should be around .08 with 6 Wraps/3mm ID for 2x24g Cores Fused Claptons..
I myself like using 38g-46g for outer wrap. It gives less ramp up time, anything higher then 40g removes virtually all ramp up time and still has the same wicking properties Fused Claptons are popular for.

This is where it gets a little confusing for me. According to SE, A 6 Wraps/3mm ID for 2x24g Cores Fused Clapton should come out to .148/.15. According to VapeTools app, 2x24g SS Cores with a 36k wrap with 3mm ID ill get .156. Should all these numbers be matching?

Maybe single coil it would be around there but for Dual Coil it would be around .08

.148 and .156 are very close to eachother. Look at leg length on both SE and vape tools. Within .01 ohms is as close as you can likely ever be. And your actual coil build could actually be at least .01ohm different than these numbers.

Did you use fused clapton on SE or just parallel wires?

Legs are all the same for all. For SE under Coil wrap I used and got this:

Using The Wire wizard I got this and got .165

Would leave well enough alone. Both of those are pretty close. The top one doesn't have the outside wrapper, which adds a tiny bit of resistance. Either way, .02ohms difference is a closer difference than you can likely control. The top one also is at 5.9wraps.

Build it and vape it.

.02 ohms is extremely close.
if you are concerned because your mod only fores down to .15ohm, i would leave a little wiggle room anyway and round up to .2 target resistance. And if you are testing the limits on a mech mod, DONT!

Ye Its close enough. Just wanted to get an idea of what settings I should be using. Also was wondering if I should trust the app more being that it knows what all the different kind of coils are.

I use both. Close enough is close enough.

.02 is no difference
.2 is concerning
2.0 is a problem.

I think you have the SE figured out though. Good luck on your build.

There's one thing I didn't see mentioned here, for the coil building area for more accurate estimations factor in the clapton wrap to your inner diameter. 36g being .127mm you take that and double it (since it's going to add on both sides of your wrapping tool) for a total of 3.254mm for your ID rather than the strait 3mm. This will add a little resistance as you're increasing the wire length.

None of these tools should be trusted any more than the others because all they are in pen and paper approximations. If you read up on steam-engine in it's "how it works" area you'll see a list of reasons why things won't match up perfect to real life examples. There's just no way to factor for many of those variables so these are just estimates. Just use whichever you find easiest to use.
