STM: Where does this o-ring go?

I just cleaned my Sub tank Mini and found an o-ring I don't recall seeing before. It's a tiny one... outer diameter is about 3/16 inch.

I've never seen this o-ring before. Can someone tell me where this goes? I don't have another STM to compare.

I don't think it came from the mod (a Coolfire IV), but you never know.

Thanks.

Perhaps it belongs to another device close by? As Amanda suggested, the only oring that small on the mini is on the drip tip.

And it appears I was wrong - I woke up thinking about it, and it prompted me to take one of mine apart. It seems this little ring is located inside, at the top of the chimney....

(But you've probably had time to figure that out by now...;) )

Thanks. for the info. I don't understand why the ring is in that location however...

So it's wrapped around that narrow tube in the center (chimney)? The thing is, that small chimney tube is part of the whole assembly top, either milled as part of it, or welded on. There's nothing to seal there. Also my o-ring is so small that it could be dropped right down that tube. It would have to be stretched to get around the tube.

Anyway I think I'll assemble the tank without the ring and see what happens. Thanks again.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised myself, I've got four of those tanks and never noticed before, even though they've been cleaned on several occasions.
