suggestions for a new setup

Hi,

I've been vaping for about a month now. I bought an Ego One V2 and am using it with the rebuildable CLR coils. This is working great so far, but I find that sometimes it is giving me too little airflow (sometimes I do want a direct lung hit) and because the tank is only 2ml, I'm needing to refill at least once, sometimes twice a day.
I am therefore looking to upgrade my setup to a boxmod (probably the Joyetech Cuboid) with a bigger tank (~4ml should do it) and a bit more flexibility.

I'm not looking to cloud chase, but do want to switch between MTL and DTL when I want. Preferably something that's around 22mm and rebuildable.

So far I was looking at these 2 tanks:
Joyetech Ultimo
PROS:
  • 4ml capacity
  • RTA deck available
  • ready made coils available for when I don't feel like building
  • easily available
CONS:
  • heard about leaking issues?
  • only direct lung?
Augvape Merlin
PROS:
  • 4ml tank
  • everybody seems to love it ;)
  • good build deck
CONS:
  • harder to find apparently (I'm in BE)
  • no ready made coils available
Let me know what you think and feel free to make suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Its almost impossible to predict what you will like best, but out of those two tanks, I'd pick the Merlin. What is your budget for the mod?

Also of note is that you can get premade coils that aren't the manufactured coil heads. Like this:

https://m.fasttech.com/p/5134600

I also link that site because on it (and others like it) you can buy clone atomizers for ~$10us/piece. This can allow you to try out different styles of tanks with minimal outlay.

For what you describe, I would also suggest looking into the Serpent Mini and Goblin Mini V3. I'll throw in the narDA too. Though its a dripper, my love affair with it wont let me leave it out. :D

Cuboid plus Merlin is a good start.

Tobeco Super Tank has an RBA option, and can run sub ohm or above ohm mtl coils like Triton 1.8, and probably the new Herakles Honor 1.8.

The Herakles, Herakles Honor, Herakles Plus, and Herakles Pro offer new 1.8 coils plus good sub ohm dl coils. No rba, but nice versatile tanks. The Herakles RTA, without prebuilt, might be too airy for mtl.

The Kanger sub mini and toptank can do it all, but I think jack of all trades, master of none.

IPOWER 80 and Avocado 24

Any more then 80 watts is surplus with this tank.

thanks for the feedback guys,

I've ordered the Merlin from FastTech. That Goblin mini V3 looks great too though!
Now we play the waiting game... :wait:

Also: thanks Kevin for the tip on the IPOWER 80, that looks like a good contender for a mod. No 'overkill', but from what I can tell, just what you need and nothing more.

No need to be afraid of making your own coil(s). There are plenty of video tutorials on YouTube. In addition, the Merlin is really easy to build and wick on. On a side note. I had my Merlin leak on me twice, due to not having the top cap put on properly. Otherwise, it's an excellent RTA.
Question though, due to the EU regulations, are you still able to by a tank, larger than 2 ml?

Hi,

thanks for the reply, I'll ake sure to keep the top cap properly fastened :p
about the regulations: they passed in May I believe and suppliers have about a year to get their gear to comply. So basically, it's now or never:cuss2:
In Belgium they passed regulation in MArch and May, after the EU guidelines where passed in 2014 (EU regulations are not automatically law, each member state has to pass it into law. these laws have to meet EU regulations and can be made stricter per country. For example: some countries ban sales altogether, or limit nicotine levels more, etc...)
The regulations in BE have been overturned by the high court, because of some unclear dates and the ridiculously high amount each vendor had to pay per product to get it declared (€4.000 per product, per vendor).

So at this time, I feel we are still a bit in somewhat of a grey zone.

Cuboid, Ipv5, and Coolfire 4 TC are all good beginner mods that you can grow with. I have them all and I like them all for different reasons. The only tanks I still use with pre built coils are the Kanger Subtank Mini and the Original crown. I like the low wattage tight draw on the STM and I love the Original crown with the .25 coil. I have the Merlin and while I really like it for single coil builds I think the Boreas is easier to build and wick for a beginner. The Alleria is also a nice tank for someone new to vaping because you can actually see your coil. I also like the Griffin 25 and the Avocado. I would definitely go with a mod capable of at least 100w so you have something that you can run multiple types of tanks and builds on.
