Compulsion Games has a knack for attracting attention with its unique visual style. In We Happy Few, the studio aims to blend a unique survival adventure with a rogue-like British dystopia circa the 1960s. And while We Happy Few’s premise intrigues, more needs to be revealed to see how it all comes together.
After an initial lengthy load time, I awake in a cozy sewer hideout. The surroundings are heavily reminiscent of Bioshock, complete with a radio playing in the background, and its old-timey deejay urging listeners to take the euphoria-inducing drug called Joy. There isn't much to do in my new sewer home beyond rummaging through piles of rubble and lockers for random items. At last, a ladder leading to the streets becomes my last course of action – so I climb.
