Tank & Coil Woes

So I am still relatively new to vaping…..3 months no stinky sticks! YAY ME!!!

I started out on an eGo One & upgraded to a Cool Fire IV……which I love!

I initially got the iSubG to go with it & after a couple funky coils I got settled & realized that the taste was horrible. I could smell what it was supposed to taste like but everything just tasted bad, off or wrong somehow.

Hit up my vape store & they suggested I give the Subtank Mini a try. Got it home & it was glorious…..juice tastes fab. My issue is that I can only get 4 or 5 days out of a coil before needing to swap it out which seems just ridiculous to me.

Also not a fan of how high up on the coil the juice holes are. Not a huge issue if you refill with the same juice all the time but a waste of juice in my case since I only vape the same flavour for a tank or maybe the day.

Not sure I am ready or confident enough to go the rebuildable route yet so what are my options? Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Being too picky? Or have I just not found the right tank/coil combination yet?

All normal stuff concerning the Subtank. I get 7-10 days out of an OCC coil but I use Ni200 in TC mode. If you like the Subtank you will love the Uwell Crown. Top fill, coil juice ports are lower, replacement coils last longer, air flow is ridiculous, flavor is great and man does this thing chuck.

IMO, the Crown is a Sub Ohm tank on steroids. Not necessary for everyone, due to having to push a lot more power, than with other Sub Ohm tanks. Not everyone has a mod that provides the power, in order to use a Crown. Nothing wrong though about flavor production.

The Crown is my favorite tank, but coil life is much worse than the subtank coils (at least for me). Flavor is off the charts, though. And, as Neunerball says you need a lot of power to get the most out of the Crown (at least a 75w mod).

It could be your juice. Some gunk up coils quicker than others. Rebuilding isn't all that difficult. I hate rebuilding, but I'm a cheap bastard, so I do it anyway. I can go more than 100ml with the RBA deck in my Subtank Mini with a rayon wick and the taste is much better than it is with the factory coils. There's lots of help available if you decide to go that route.

Coils, or more correctly cotton wears out quite quickly. I think about 10 days is the best I've ever gotten, typically flavor and vapor production begins to drop after a couple days, and becomes noticeably bad after 5 days or so. This is an average of a few different tanks/coils. It's just something that's going to happen.

You mention the concern on flavor changing, even if the coil lasts the flavor remains in the cotton for like half a tank in my experience.

So to get to the point, look into rebuilding! You won't regret it. If you have a good local vape shop just ask them to see the RBA for your tank, they probably have one and can show you how to do it. If not check out Youtube and find any of the million guides on how to do it (very common/popular tank you got there). If it seems to much, don't do it but it's really not hard. Takes some time getting it down, especially wicking the cotton but after a few failures you learn what not to do and refine your method. And even if you find making a coil hard, you have to do that like once a month as the coil lasts a long time, just pull the cotton out, dry burn your coil, and rewick.

Cotton is cheap, Wire is cheap, premade coil heads aren't.

I understand the reservations and concerns about going that route, but after you see how it's done if you think there's any chance you'll be able to do it (I'm sure you can) you're looking at a tiny investment. $5-10 for the RBA deck, about the same for some wire and cotton. Then you can play with that till you think you got it right, try it, if it doesn't work pop your premade coil back in, enjoy vaping and go ahead and try making the coil again. It's fun tinkering and playing with it too! But, you're not locked into it, around $15 investment for the chance to never have to buy a premade coil head again? Worth it IMO.

The Subtank Mini comes with the RBA.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure (I don't have one but brother does). Either way in that case, grab some wire and some cotton and give it a try!
