The life and crimes of former math professor turned serial killer Ted Kaczynski, aka the Unabomber, has been the subject of books and film/TV projects ever since his arrest in 1996, but Tony Stone’s upcoming film Ted K appears to be the first movie to serve as a character study of the infamous domestic terrorist.

Ted K’s new trailer – which you can watch exclusively here on IGN via the player above or the embed below –provides an extended look at Sharlto Copley (District 9, Free Fire) as Kaczynski. The trailer has a slow-burn thriller vibe as we gradually watch this deeply troubled, isolated man violently react to disruptive civilization infringing on his wilderness solitude.

The official synopsis describes Ted K as “a bracing, cinematic journey into the tortured mind of The Unabomber. Deep in the American Rocky Mountains lived a man who sought refuge from modern society. His dark writings forewarned of a society ruled by technology.

As the outside world encroached on his mountain sanctuary, he slowly became radicalized with rage. What began with small acts of sabotage, culminated with deadly bomb attacks, national media attention, and the largest manhunt in American history.”

Living alone in a wooded cabin without electricity, Kaczynski penned an infamous manifesto, published in 1995, wherein he advocated for "a revolution against the industrial system." He killed three people and injured 23 over 17 years; he’s currently serving eight consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.

In addition to Sharlto Copley, the cast of Ted K includes Drew Powell, Amber Rose Mason, Travis Bruyer, Megan Folsom, Andrew Senn, and Keith Barber.

Ted K will be available in theaters and On Demand on February 18.
