Warning: Full spoilers from the episode follow.
One of the great things about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, especially lately, is how it's not afraid of bringing back side characters any time it wants. Despite the recent Mighty Mutanimals arc a few weeks ago, "Clash of the Mutanimals" brought the ragtag foursome back in a big way, as Slash and Dr. Rockwell were kidnapped by Tiger Claw. This episode made major strides in Shredder's mind control scheme, which roped the Turtles into the conflict as well.
Admittedly, TMNT's "brainwash" plot device has gotten pretty old at this point, and given the premise of the episode, it wasn't the least bit surprising that Shredder would want to test out his new serum on a couple of mutants before trying it on Karai. In this case, though, it was at least kind of necessary given we already knew Shredder was planning something like this. Plus, it was a bit of a shakeup having the Mutanimals involved this time.
