Nickel in temperature mode and kanthal in power mode. Kanthal won't fire in temperature control. If you use nickel in power mode you have a chance of burning out the coil.

SS430 is probably your best bet. It can be used in both TC and VW mode. I'm using SS316L which is similar but not as good in TC as 430. I've also heard people say Nife is good as well for both, But i can never find where to buy any personally.

thank you but my question is I'm seeing kanthal mixed with ss or nickel or ni80 and so on, they are used together in clapton coils, so if kanthal isn't suppose to be used in temp mode and ss and the others have to be used in temp mode, so what mode to you run these mixed metals in????

Kanthal is the core so you use power mode, doesn't matter what the outside wire is.

The other wires probably transfer heat faster than kanthal but I don't know for sure. @raymo2u probably knows why

I have used SS about a year now, superior taste IMO and can run in TC or power mode.

You can use those in TC devices, But it will probably only work with a DNA mod where you upload a custom curve. I do know some people here said they use a mix of kenthal and other wire for TC mode. Not sure who though

Your best bet, IMO, is to just go with straight stainless steel. It's easy to work with, has great flavor, can be used in both power and TC mode and it's the "safest" of the big TC wires. If you want to TC Kanthal there is only 2 mods that can do it; the hohmtech G2 and hohm slice.

I agree with the SS. Also NIFE is supposed to be really good. I ordered some but am waiting for it still
