TFV8 RBA first build smell weird

Put some cotton on the premade coils and its my first ever build and its a straight out the box as I burnt my T8 coil out and need to get a new one and thought id give it a go..
Ita giving off a funky smell/taste so dunno what it is and what wattage i should run it on my Smok Alien mod
New to the coil building/RBA game so not 100% on what im doing haha

One of the following options:
The new RBA deck was dirty/oily.
The coils were dirty/oily.
Dry hit due to bad wicking/too high wattage.
Hot spots.

Wash the deck and coils with hot soapy water.
Rinse.
Dry.
Dry fire/Pulse/Remove hot spots.
Coils should fire evenly from center out.
Wick.
Juice.
Test fire.
Fill tank.
Vape.
