Over the 21 years since its inception, the X-COM series – now called XCOM – has had a dramatic run. It’s the story of an original game that was regarded as not only one of the best of its time, but among the best of all time, yet the next nearly two decades’ worth of games that followed were a long string of disappointments, failures, and disasters that couldn’t recapture what made it special. But it’s also a story of redemption, when after a long period of darkness a new developer picked up the torch and returned the series to greatness.
