While New Avengers #33 wasn't much of a series finale, The Avengers #44 is more ambitious and all-encompassing when it comes to wrapping up Jonathan Hickman's long stint on these two titles. It's an epic way to cap off the book and pave the way for Secret Wars #1.

Hickman divides his attention among several plot threads in this final issue, including the intergalactic assault on Earth, the fate of Namor's Cabal in the Ultimate Universe, and the Avengers' desperate efforts to build an ark and allow some remnant of humanity to survive the end of existence.
