Warning: full episode spoilers follow.
We may be getting close to the end of The Big Bang Theory's eighth season, but the show has offered little indication of what conflicts might be guiding the cast along to the finale episode. Now that the business of mourning Mrs. Wolowitz is done and no one seems interested in even acknowledging Leonard and Penny's engagement, this episode was left to chug along and attempt to mine some new drama in these characters' lives. Needless to say, it wasn't terribly successful.
"The Communication Deterioration" did loosely build from last week's installment as Penny wrestled with her yearning to return to the acting grind with her newfound attachment to the safe but lucrative world of pharmaceutical sales. Oddly enough, the fact that she was auditioning for Clerks 3 was never once mentioned this week. Somehow I don't picture Kevin Smith of all directors putting out the call for several dozen attractive, 30-something blondes and going through such a formal audition process.
