Warning: full episode spoilers follow.
It would be easy to label tonight’s episode as filler. Last week we got the big showdown between Dr. Wells and the rest of Team Flash, with the former finally being revealed for what he truly is and vanishing to begin his endgame. So why not power forward into the final storyline of the season, rather than roll out a completely different villain this week to distract our heroes from their true target? The answer is that Gorilla Grodd deserves his own moment in the spotlight, no matter where that moment might come.
Grodd has easily been my most anticipated Flash villain ever since his shattered cage was glimpsed early this season. His brief appearance after Wells captured General Eiling at the end of the Firestorm storyline only whetted my appetite further. The show has been crying out for a Grodd-themed episode ever since, and I’m glad we got it now rather than having to wait until Season 2.
