The fourth episode of The Legend of Vox Machina – Amazon’s new animated fantasy-adventure series inspired by the characters and tales of Critical Role’s live-streamed tabletop RPG campaign – drops on Prime Video this Friday, February 4th, and IGN has an exclusive first look at it.

The Legend of Vox Machina follows the hard-living misfits known as Vox Machina on their mission to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. IGN’s exclusive clip, which you can watch via the player above or the embed below, features a major battle against the undead.

As we said in our explainer for The Legend of Vox Machina, Season One follows what’s called the Briarwood arc wherein the character of Percy, with the aid of Vox Machina, ventures to Whitestone to avenge his parents’ deaths. The Briarwood storyline was originally chronicled in a 15-episode arc of Critical Role’s podcast (running from episodes 24 to 38).

The Legend of Vox Machina debuted last week. In IGN’s review of the initial three episodes, we said the show “delivers a perfect amount of absurdity and art.” IGN reviewer Andrea Towers continued:

“The first three episodes waste no time diving into the action, drawing us into a world where, whether you like it or not, you’re forced to root for this found family. This ‘trial by fire’ approach is a smart move for a show that’s adapting a multi-year, 400+-hours-long campaign into 12 episodes of user-friendly story, as is the series enlisting Titmouse as its animation studio. …

With stunning animation, sweeping music, and epic storytelling, the three-episode premiere of The Legend of Vox Machina has rolled a natural 20. Whether you’ve been waiting for the world of Critical Role to be brought to life or you’re a new fan who just loves Dungeons & Dragons, it’s an enjoyable adventure right from the start.”

The Legend of Vox Machina stars Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham. The Critical Role cast also serves as executive producers, alongside Brandon Auman, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina.

A production of Amazon Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse for Prime Video, the twelve-episode The Legend of Vox Machina will run in three-episode blocks every Friday until February 18.
