With EOFY chaos still lingering in digital storefronts, this week’s gaming deals are a treasure trove of gold-plated discounts and cult classics ripe for the picking. Whether you're looking to binge your backlog or dip into something new before tax season wipes you out, I've found you hidden value on every platform. Let's get to it!

This Day in Gaming πŸŽ‚

In retro news, I’m using my Flame Shard technique to ignite a 20-candle cake for Jade Empire. Released on the OG Xbox by BioWare, this RPG was a bold departure from the studio's previous titles, blending real-time combat with a rich narrative steeped in Chinese mythology. I have fond memories of assuming the role of the Last Spirit Monk, navigating a world filled with gods, demons, and moral choices that shaped my journey while reaffirming my lack of IRL decency.

The game's unique setting and incorporation of a constructed language, Tho Fan, added depth to its immersive world-building. Also, the Bruce Lee fan in me simply liked meeting new foes, asking them if they were thirsty, and then serving them a large glass of wa-taaa. Sadly, despite its innovative design and storytelling, Jade Empire didn't achieve the commercial success of BioWare's later franchises and remains a cult classic to fans like me.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo players can snag Persona 5 Royal, a game that took over a decade of ATLUS iteration to reach its definitive form. Also worth grabbing is Unicorn Overlord, the tactics-heavy gem from Vanillaware. The director of this title previously worked on the cult PS2 hit Odin Sphere, so you just know it's good.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Over on Xbox Series X, RoboCop: Rogue City nails the β€˜80s aesthetic so well it even includes fake TV ads and in-world news segments written by actual screenwriters from the original film trilogy. Tekken 8 also throws fists with flair. The team used motion capture from real martial artists to make King’s wrestling combos that extra bit ridiculous.
