Public health = money
In the USA
Altria and PMI just needs the FDA deeming regulations to get control.
  • Altria is providing PMI with an exclusive license to commercialize Altria’s e-vapor products internationally;
  • PMI is providing Altria, on an exclusive basis, two of PMI’s heated tobacco products for commercialization in the United States; and
  • the parties are cooperating on scientific assessment, regulatory engagement and sharing improvements regarding those products.
  • Nu Mark primarily develops and markets innovative tobacco products. It competes in the e-vapor space with MarkTen® and Green Smoke®and has other innovative products such as VERVE® discs.

Peoplez... (...and please to forgive noob-rant)
We as Americans, have filled Washington and our state legislatures with liberals. (tax-happy control freaks)
That is the root you must cut.

The guy in the vid is prolly right but executes poorly.
IOW, I get that he's on our side but I would still distance myself from him
the same way Christians distance themselves from the Westboro Baptist Church.
Shark, I totally get where you're coming from when you say his polemical tone could be a detriment to the cause all by itself, but I think you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Your post IS a good reminder that we need more calm and well reasoned statements of the facts (and in defense of) e-cigs, but there are all too few positive statements of any kind, and I, for one, will take what I can get --at least to a degree. I think you've overblown how "wacky" he sounds in the way you describe the article, and he's made several really important points. And when you look at those facts as a group, it is actually quite challenging not to get snippy and emotional--because the anti-ecig propaganda/hysteria situation is such a serious threat.

I'm hardly the first person to have suggested this, but as vapers we need to flood the public space (letters to editors, editorials when possible, blog posts on non e-cig related blogs, etc) with short articles filled with a) a brief version of our personal story testifying to e-cigs effectiveness as a cessation method and b) the facts we do have.

I just don't see him as the incisive, quick thinking strategist and PR tactician needed here.

The vape issue is all politics now. The object is to win, not to be right.
And while I support his right to vent hysterically on the interwebz, IMO, he ain't the guy for this kinda spin:
Special Report: When it comes to e-cigs, Big Tobacco is concerned for your health
(Kinda makes ya' wanna choke somethin', don't it?)

Big Tobacco is financing bunk "studies" claiming e-cigs give off everything from formaldehyde to Agent Orange.
By election time, "scientists" are almost certain to have linked birth defects and hemorrhoids to e-cigs.
250px-Blinky_3.jpg

Big Tobacco (BT) has also financed quite a number of still active political careers.
'Cause they gotz them sum moneys.

Yes... the anti-vape lobby has somehow united both the libtards (tax & control) AND
the (BT beholdent) conservatards against us.

(And not one of 'em gives a flyin' fleek about right or wrong or your rights or the credibility of the evidence...)
They care about one thing... Money. <---(that's a period) Because money runs the machine.

WTF is 'Big Vape' doing? (Serious question) Do they (we) have a $10 million warchest???
Have the top 100 (I dunno, pick a number) online vape shops chimed in with $10 - 20k each???
Seriously!!! This is a billion dollar industry. I'll bet mosta' their new yachts have phones... Wot say we ring 'em up?

Anybody call China?... mebbe get some feedback from the fellas over there? They got a few bucks, right? :)
These are the people who have profited the most and who now have the most to lose.

We need a machine too. And machines are expensive. Have China and the big online vape retailers done enough?
I don't know. But if there were a way to know, I would lend preference to those sellers and manufacturers who've contributed substantially to the community cause, and shun those selfish profiteers who've refused to contribute.

That is where we have our power.

[/endrant]
Great post. If I weren't so damned exhausted I would respond in more detail, but for now, let me just say: Rock on, Shark Vape! You're funny and smart and well informed. If you haven't done already, you should start an advocacy/activism/educational vape blog. Or just keep posting with gusto! You've managed to whip me up a bit and I was half asleep when I started reading.

About your last line--about where we have our power: to the extent we can know these things, I agree fully. But it's one of multiple routes open to us if we are organized and persistent. Now, I'm certainly not--or haven't been yet aside from a few scrappy social media posts. Just living my life--any outside causes aside--is challenging. Lame, yes, but sadly some version of this excuse will apply to most people. It's probably going to be up to the people who've got their livelihood tied up in vaping to inspire and organize the rest of us to efficiently channel our limited energies where they can have the greatest impact.

I wonder if they discuss these issues at the vape meets that are happening all time now, all around the country--or if it's mostly just boys with toys. I'm not being flip with this question..

Maybe, Smoky. But now is where we are, so now what? What are "we" (you, I, "people") going to do about this--if anything?
What are your ideas about how to respond to this as a community? This: http://stillblowingsmoke.org/?gclid...WbV8M5LjpToqrCRTU3ogX23U3mcc0aAl_b8P8HAQ#kids

you really do not want my opinion on this one, @lirruping ;)

but pay attention to who you vote for, where your dollars go, save the kids, keep your nic out of easy to reach places..
and last.. stock the hell up on everything.
