I see a lot of people having issues with their x cube 2 and was curious what chip was inside of it. The following is just my understanding and thoughts. I'm no electrical engineer, so take it FWIW.
It uses a chip from Nuvoton, a Taiwan based company. It's hard to read the actual model but I'm assuming its an 8 Bit microcontroller. I have no idea how/if they can be flashed with anything other than the firmware from Smok, that's not my area at all. I would love to know if it can be pulled off of the device and decoded to see if there is an issue in a particular area. Again, not my area.. Yet. I couldn't get a decent picture to get the exact model, so it's hard to say what exact model it is.
It's worked fine for me in regular wattage/power mode.
I have tried it with a RDA and some Ni200 wire, and it seemed to not work well. I even set the offset manually and with the app. It always burned cotton. I have no real tank to test it with, so YMMV.
Issues:
- Bad display readings, or readings on BT app is off?
Update Firmware
- Sticky Fire Bar?
Try loosening the screws just a bit to realign everything, if not it may be the sticky pad in the center has shifted a bit.
- If your Bluetooth app is acting up and not saving settings, or the mod itself wont save things, do another firmware flash. You can flash 1.093 over itself, I have.
-It does have roughly a 500ms delay (from time the bar is pressed, to time you are actually at full voltage requested), I suspect because it's waiting to see if you are going into the menu system ( done via the firing bar).
Tips:
When flashing, no matter what the app says, I've always held the fire bar down the entire time. Worked for me multiple times.
Be careful with the mod if its black, my paint seems to come off easily.
All in all, for 50 bucks USD, it seems like a nice tinkering mod. It does need some software fixes for little things, whether the bluetooth app or the firmware. It's sturdy enough for me, as I'm hard on all my things. Just not that the paint isn't the best. It can get slippery when it has juice on it, but a quick wipe and its gone. Fingerprints do stick to it pretty well. It's one of my two daily use mods, has been for a few weeks now. I just uploaded this for anyone interested in a tear down, nobody seems to do them anymore.
