IGN can exclusively debut the first trailer for the upcoming HBO Max Original action-adventure series Theodosia, which is based on Robin L. LaFevers’ bestselling books. You can watch the trailer via the player above or the embed below.
Theodosia is set in 1906 and follows the title character (played by His Dark Materials’ Eloise Little) as she, her younger brother, and their friends battle a secret society out to destroy the world with ancient Egyptian dark magic.
The official synopsis sheds more light on the series’ plot:
“Theodosia follows 14-year-old Theodosia Throckmorton, aka Theo, a smart, witty, supernaturally gifted teen girl who just wants to fit in and have a normal life. Theo’s life is anything but normal though. The daughter of two intrepid Egyptologists excavating in the Valley of the Kings, Theo lives in the world-famous Museum of Legends and Antiquities in the heart of Edwardian London.
When you live in a museum filled with cursed Egyptian artifacts, things can get weird and you just have to learn to roll with it. Theo, Henry, Will, and Safiya battle with ancient forces, dark magic, and comic chaos, all while trying to survive teenage life, get through school and save the world.”
Newcomer Frankie Minchella portrays Henry, Nana Agyeman-Bediako (The State) plays Will and Yasmina El-Abd (Daughters of Abdul-Rahman) plays Egyptian Princess Safiya.
Produced by Cottonwood Media and broadcasters ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, HBO Max, and Globo, Theodosia begins streaming on HBO Max on Thursday, March 10.
