Titanium Clapton

Anyone have any experience with Ti claptons? I was thinking about trying a build a single coil with 36g Nichrome wrapped around 26g Ti. Been messing around with steam engine, and figure best bet may be 4 wraps around 2.5mm for about 0.2ohms. Steam engine gives this a heat flux of 145.2 @ 60w and heat capacity of 56.61. More wraps or a lower gauge Ti wire results in a heat flux way too low... Any thoughts?

If anyone else is interested in trying one of these, they work beautifully! Made one last night, ended up going with 36g Nichrome around 24g Ti. 5 wraps around 2.5mm came out to 0.17ohms. Vaping at 50w/460F. Temp control works flawlessly. Here are some pics:

I make (and sell) these all the time.
Lately my favorite has been a fused titanium clapton or an alien wire clapton. Both have great flavor and very nice clouds.

Will have to try those, been doing a SS core Ti wrap that works well.

Just made my first Ti fused clapton. You are right, BUDKISS, it performs beautifully! 36g Nichrome wrapped around two 26g Ti wires. 5 wraps around 2.5mm gave me 0.13 Ohms. 50w/480F works great! Here's a pic, not perfect, but hey it was my first one so I'm pretty happy with it!

Pretty damn close to perfect! How'd you get your cotton to be so tidy looking?

I didn't realize that nichrome and contact coils would work with temp control. Are you sure you are actually getting temp control? Nichrome will fire to super high temps and perhaps high enough to form ti02 on the ti wire. Some say that ti02 is not good for you, some say it's ok, especially in the amounts one might get during vaping. Erring on the side of caution, I try to avoid it. Nice looking coil and wick job.

Thanks guys, yeah CrazyChef, I'm just a bit OCD sometimes... Lol. I just do the "Scottish roll" technique and then I'll sit there for 10-15 minutes fluffing, tucking, and poking with my tweezers till I'm happy with it. As far as the temp control goes... This is how I vape and how I assume temp control is working:
I juice the wick and vape at my desired wattage and temp, in this case, 50w/480F. Once I notice a slight drop in vapor production, I drop the temp to 420F. From there I'll vape and vape and vape until there's little to no vapor production. I then take a look at the cotton, and if it's literally bone dry, I assume temp control is working. Probably not as accurately as a Ti-only coil, but seems to do it's job without any burned cotton or strange taste. Here's a pic after vaping till totally dry:

Just a suggestion in case you wish to know for sure; Depending on your mod, you can typically see a "temp protection" alert on the screen when it kicks in. You could set temp low, say <300, take a good long hit and watch the screen to see if it is working. But if you are happy with the vape, like they say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" :)

Thanks, tried it and indeed "Temp Protect" displayed. I have a Vaporfi VOX 100 TC (I know, super overpriced, got it back when I first quit smoking and wasn't yet aware of all the choices out there.. Lol but it has been performing well) If I understand correctly, on my device at least, "Temp Protect" displays when the minimum wattage possible still won't keep coil below set temp. Until that happens, only the temperature is displayed while the wattage decreases. So prolly why no "Temp Protect" at 420F even when dry is, I'm assuming, because the (Twisted Messes RDA) airflow is keeping the coil cool enough to not require a wattage drop below minimum. I'm no expert here though... Still learning the ropes with temp control. About to pull the trigger on a Lavabox, I'm pretty techy so I'd go nutts with that escribe software LOL. Plus custom TCR curves for hybrid coils like these sounds awesome!

Yeah, it opens up a whole new world with the dna200 and escribe. Have spent many a happy hour playing. Check out all the dna200 box options, there are a lot now. I went with the Hcigar VT200, and while it has been stellar, they lied about battery capacity (big surprise lol) Not familiar with the Vaporfi and don't know what board it uses, but as I understand TC the real beauty is being able to crank the watts and not exceed a wire temperature that is either unpleasant or perhaps unhealthy. A good place to learn more about the dna200 (apologies if I'm telling you something you already know) is here;
