To Tank or Not To Tank?

To give a little bit of a backstory, I haven't been vaping very long. Just a few months now, a friend help me put the gas station crap of my past in the past. That's what I thought vamping was. So, needless to say he told me what he had and I followed with a mech mod and rda. (I've had people comment that starting with an rda was a bad idea, but I'm old enough and have had tons of experience with electrical work and ohm's law, and have common sense ha!) Anyway, with that said my friend told me he has owned numerous tanks and said he had issues with every single one, they break, they leak, THEY SUCK, stick with the dripper. But I have got to the point where there are occasions that I don't wanna carry juice or have to pull everything out and drip. It can be a little bit of hassle for me sometimes. Maybe it's just me, and don't get me wrong I love my rea and im already hooked on wanting to get a couple more. I enjoy building coils, and everything around vaping. So, with that monster of a story said, I would like to hear others opinions on tanks. Pros and cons, best brands, and all that jazz. I would prefer a tank that I can still build.

Anyhow, I. Super happy I've discovered this community, everyone here is awesome and I really appreciate everyone's time and feedback.

I'm definitely a converted vapor now and never again will the cancer sticks touch my lips!

Hey, welcome to VU! I recommend tanks to people that are on the road majority of times because of their job. It's more convenient, the coils are already pre made and using a tank requires less juice than dripping would. Like you said, tanks will leak, get smashed - so be more considerate with a tank, than you would with an rda. That being said, an rda produces more vapour and flavour than a tank would. So to tank or not to tank? Yes, why not? It's nice to have it when you're tired of constantly dripping, it's a great back up. Currently, I'm loving the Delta II. If you're going to go with a tank, go for one with a sub ohm coil. The airflow control at its biggest setting can achieve the straight lung hits or turn the airflow down to enjoy the mouth to lung hits.

I'm new to vaping myself, total newb ;) but this is what I've learned from my customers. Have a good day!

Kanger Subtank series or the Lemmo II since you can build coils.

I'll second the Kanger suggestion. I've been using my full size subtank for 5 months and have only had a leak once or twice when I got distracted and didn't tighten things snuggly. The RBA section does reduce airflow a bit, but I believe the Mini's RBA has solved this (feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken). The OCC coils have plenty of airflow for me, and are pretty easy to rewick.
I bought a CoolFire 4 and Subtank Nano for my wife last night, and chose the Nano for size and so that we have compatible coils in the house. I've heard lots of good things about the Arctic tank too. Bottom line? A tank is really, really handy for those times when dripping isn't either convenient or safe.

Subtank is great, haven't had a leak but I have broken the glass twice (vape band is helping now lol). Atlantis 2.0... I don't love it, too much air flow IMO, I don't get that really smooth dense cloud from it, I get a big cloud but not as dense or flavorful, however the original Atlantis is my go to tank, it was my first sub ohm tank, used a 20w or 50w istick and I still love it. Yes, both tanks now have the same coils and I've got a 510 drip adapter for the 2.0 but it's still not as good lol. Being that you like rda's the 2.0 air flow might make you happy. For me, the draw on the original is as big as it needs to be, to keep the flavor and cloud quality. When I have a VS nickle coils in it on my sx mini with 80ish vg and my clouds are dense, flavor is on, I'm happy. I've never broken the glass on the two I own and I owe it to the lattice tank cover that's worth the extra $8 and looks dope. I'm just getting to know my new smok tank, no complaints so far but haven't found it's sweet spot yet. I am keeping an eye on the new aspire triton.

Edit, I'll add one thing, the Atlantis has a shitty tank capacity, so it's not a once a day fill.

Good luck with your choice, cheers.

Love my Subtank mini.
I went from RDA's and mech's to Subtanks and vv mods and have never looked back.
The option of the rebuildable deck (RTA) on the Subtank is great.

You can sqounk or RTA. As die hard as I am about the REO, the Kanger Subtank Mini with the RBA section installed is just stupid easy and hassle free. Got to wick it right, but hell that's with everything.

I like the Arctic for a tank personally, but I've also had good luck with the Kanger Subtank, and it is designed to be rebuilt, if that's what you're looking for.

A word of caution, since you said you're using a mech - if it's a hybrid style with no 510 pin (the bottom of the atomizer connects the battery directly) using a tank isn't advisable - the center pin on your atomizer needs to protrude at least 1-2 mm in order to avoid creating a hard short, which could lead to battery venting/explosion in short order. Most tank center pins don't protrude far enough for safety.

There's a lot of good tanks out there now. I haven't had trouble with any. It's a matter of preference and what you are looking for. Rebuildable base or not. I get stuck in traffic a lot and that's when the tank comes in really handy. When your driving. So a lot of people have tanks for driving and RDA's for everything else. Good luck finding what your looking for!

Well, I picked this up two days ago. I figured for the price, a good start to RTA & VV/VW . I have been super happy so far, no leaks, charging with pass through is nice, occ coils are alright, built my own(I think it's a lil better) easy to build on even for my fat fingers. Thanks for all the info and opinions! I can't believe how much the vv mod improved everything. I will prolly still use my mech mod from time to time, but my new tank and my old RDA will ride on this 90% of the time. I just thought I got flavor before. I've even tried a couple of old favors I bought and didn't care for, and they taste totally different in this thing. I just hope now that I can hold myself back from already wanting to buy another vv/VW mod! I'd have to really talk myself into spending $150 - $200 lol but I'm sure the American made, $200 stuff is something that'll last for awhile!

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP!image.jpg

If you like the airflow of the Kanger Subtank Mini, an alternative to a RBA/RTA is the Big Dripper V2. It's a RDA with a tank on top of it. In order to drip more juice, you just push the drip tip down.

Ohh, maybe I will check that one out. Depending on the price I may consider it, but right now the flavor I've got from the Subtank if way better than what I was getting before. I will def check it out though!
