To vape or not to vape..

I've been vaping for 1 year this month, my wife has expressed some interest in trying it. I smoked a pack of day for about 10 years before vaping, my wife has never smoked a cigarette in her life. So when a non smoker wants to try vaping should a vaper encourage or discourage it? Curious what the community thinks.

Honestly, IMO, vaping is a safer alternative for those of us looking to stop smoking and regain some of what we've lost over the years. Whether it's health, taste, smell, etc - if she's never smoked a day in her life, there's really no reason for her to pick up vaping. There's no 100% guarantee that vaping, in and of itself, is 100% safe - it's an alternative to smoking and should be treated as such.

My wife doesn't smoke, and never has and if she expressed interest, I'd ask why given that fact. I don't see any logical reason a non-smoker would be interested or have a desire to vape if they never smoked, dipped, etc - i.e. if they aren't looking to get away from something more hazardous.

That's a much more reasonable response than mine...

I never smoked but got into vaping originally to figure out how to get my fiance to stop smoking. Going on about 2 years since she quit. I picked it up to help me stop drinking. 8 months of no alcohol. Replacing a vice with vaping seems like a win win situation.

Not to sounds rude, does she snack a lot? I am an overeater and finding the flavors of vaping are helping me snack less. Not a magical cure, but helping.

You're curious what our thoughts are, but I'm curious what *her* reasons are? :)

I think with her it's more curiosity than anything, if I ask her why, she just says something like "idk id just like to try it"
These are all good points, I wouldn't try to stop her or anything. I mostly just wondered what other people thought about people starting to vape without a previous habit. It's normal to hear about how long people have been off cigarettes and on vaping, I've never heard anyone who didn't smoke say they started with vaping.

I do not see anything wrong with someone who never smoked.. to vape 0mg..
but I also see the "idea" of them not vaping, too..

I normally start my day with 12mg.. around lunch I use 6mg..
If I think I am over vaping.. I will go straight to 0mg..
After dinner and once things have calmed down.. i bounce from 6mg to 12mg.. depending on how my day is going. :)

Some points:

1) I do know people who vape who were not smokers prior to vaping. Zero nic is one thing, but when the perception is that it's "safe" anyway, there's going to be a "why not" factor to consider. "I've been thinking of adding just a little nicotine because I've heard it can help get you through a stressful day" is not a statement for which i want to need to have a response. Because that response will necessarily include a good, solid smack across the face.
2) We do not yet have all the science we need to be able to say they are perfectly safe. In fact some chemicals are clearly bad (diacetyl, etc.) and of course one of the most popular flavors is custard, which is usually going to have diacetyl or a related compound which is also an inhalation risk. Same with other buttery flavors like butterscotch or even my beloved caramel. Popcorn lung is, i gather, a non-fun mode of existence.

So, no. I would emphatically not recommend vaping to a non-smoker. No way.

Well here I am a non smoker vaping with nic. In my profession, engineering, all the vices are common and not looked down upon. Never took up smoking myself because of what is for sure known about that stuff. So I drank. But drinking too much is also bad. I found that vaping really kills any want or care for drinking. I am a small business owner on top of the stress already involved in my profession, so it was pretty easy to control whatever I was doing and who exactly is going to have an issue about it besides me? But I knew I needed to stop. And just like that it was pretty damn easy. Vaping is a great alternative for me.

If someone is susceptible to smoking which I am using my example of engineering and school. Then vaping seems like a much better path than smoking. It seemed like half of my class was smoking while in school. Graduated in 2002 to date me.

IMHO, a non-smoker doing 0mg just to enjoy the experience of vaping is just fine. It's like pipe or cigar smokers who don't use cigarettes and don't inhale.

Now, if she'd never smoked, I'd not let her use any nicotine and then start an addiction where there previously was none. :)

I think it could be good for the two of ya to share a hobby like vaping.
