Tres Equis tear down and cleanup / fix

The Tres Equis is a powerful mech mod but the authentic can be hard to get and is fairly expensive when they are available. Long story short - I have a clone and it didn't work quite right originally so I took it apart and made it work nice. It's a great mod.

Things that didn't work quite right....
1. Sometimes one battery would still have a full charge when I took it out.
2. The base of the mod got warmer than I expected it to.
3. The button was a bit dodgy.

Causes -
1. The triangular top battery connection had too much wiggle room above it and if you tighten the batteries in just wrong then they don't all contact it. Fixed by putting a fibre washer in the top of the mod.

2. The screw that connects to the copper contact is very slightly too long, it's only about .5mm too long but that makes a weak contact. I found a shorter screw to use but a small metal washer would also of fixed it.

3. The long contact from the base had a funky end, I shaped it so it would make good contact and tidied it up with a file and sandpaper.

Disassemble it -

Theres not much to it which is how a mechanical should be :)

Obviously you want to clean up the contacts - its a while since I modified mine so you can't see before and after, just look at your own you should see if the long one is a bit iffy.

This is where the slightly too long screw used to live, like I said I found a shorter one so it tightens down nice and firmly.

Fibre washer in the top contact plate, this keeps the contacts down when you tighten the batteries. You can probably think of something better to use than a fibre washer but I had one handy at the time :D

Oh yeah make sure you clean everything that is part of the electrical contact circuit - the inside threads are important on the bottom plate....

...as of course are the battery screws.

Then screw it all back together, be careful to test that the switch doesn't lock down when pressed before you put the batteries back in. The switch can fall inside if you have over adjusted the long contact and catch in the 'on' position.

Once it is all looking good try a test fire....

Woo!

Literally just set aside this mod to deal with the, 1 battery being completely charged issue. What other than a fibre washer would fit or work in there? is the only stipulation, non-conductive?

image.jpeg Nice break down, I like the Tres Equis clone.

I have a few of them, maybe I was lucky but haven't had any of the issues you have listed. The copper contacts in mine are silver plated.

It needs to be able to withstand some heat as well. You could probably layer thin card or a bit of thin wood in there if yours has that problem.
