The comic book industry just celebrated another Free Comic Book Day event, but the fun isn't quite over yet. Substack is holding its own "Free Comic Book Day (On Substack)" event, and they're using the occasion to launch a new horror anthology series written by superstar creator James Tynion IV.

Tynion is kicking off a new project called True Weird. This horror anthology series will feature a number of new stories illustrated by different artists and published in a seasonal format. Tynion's first partner is none other than The Dark Knight Returns' Klaus Janson. Check out the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive preview of the new series:

Substack bills this digital event as essentially the Cyber Monday to FCBD's Black Friday. Much like with the company's recent relaunch of its digital comics line, the goal is to put the spotlight on the many creators who have signed on with Substack, with some launching new projects today and others making existing work free to non-subscribers. Here's the full list of the creators/titles being spotlighted:

  • Saladin Ahmed and Dave Acosta's The Dragon
  • James Tynion IV's True Weird Anthology
  • Tini Howard and Philip Sevy's Phenomenocity
  • Grant Morrison's lost 1982 comic
  • Brian K Vaughan and Niko Henrichon's Spectators
  • Rodney Barnes and Maan House's 20 Degrees Past Rigor
  • 3 Worlds/3 Moons: Vallars Chapter 1
  • Tom King and Elsa Charretier's Love Everlasting #3
  • Kelly Thompson's Black Cloak
  • Joanne Starer and Khary Randolph's Sirens of the City
  • Skottie Young's Untold Tales of I Hate Fairyland
  • Jeff Lemire and Tate Brombal's Black Hammer: Colonel Weird and Little Andromeda

Tynion was among the first and most high-profile creators to make the jump to Substack in 2021, opting to cut short his work on Batman and The Joker in order to focus on creator-owned horror comics on his Substack channel The Empire of the Tiny Onion. However, Tynion hasn't entirely cut ties with DC, as he continues to publish his ongoing horror series The Nice House On the Lake and recently kicked off a new Sandman Universe comic called Nightmare Country.
