Try Subohming

Hi,

I'd like to give subohming a try, I've become a bit disillusioned with my normal ego/nautilus set up so I figured subohming would be worth a shot.

I'd like some advice on what hardware to buy. I don't want to spend too much but I don't want to buy something that gives me a poor impression. Looking to spend ~£30/$40 but I don't know what quality that will buy.

Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.

The Aspire K4 is around that price and comes with a Cleito tank and a 0.27 coil. Very strong vape, too hot for me personally. But a nice kit for beginners to subing. The Cleito coils come in 0.4 as well, so not quite as hot as the 0.27. Good luck!

Good advice, thank you, I will bear it in mind. Will that run well with an eLeaf iStick 30W Or should I be looking for something more purpose-built?

I like the eVic VTC mini, myself, good size for my hands, not heavy, either.. It takes one 18650 battery, fully adjustable from 1 watt up to 75 watts, unless I missed an upgrade that takes it higher. At this time, there are a lot of really good mods out there. If you want replaceable batteries, tons of stuff out there. Downside, you will likely want to buy a charger for the batteries, as not all mods are recommended to charge through the USB. Upside, they don't become a paperweight once the internal battery dies out. The Reuleux is another super popular mod. Take 3 batteries, but lasts quite a while!

Once you get several suggestions of mods to look into, do a bit of research on them, see what might suit your needs.

That is the whole deal, comes with a battery and tank. Vape right out of the box, just add juice. Not sure if it would perform at less than about 40 watts on other mods. Maybe the .4 ohm coils might.
Maybe someone with more info will chime in.

Ah yeah, I understand now. Also, thanks for weighing in Huckleberried, I'll keep an open mind.

Any other suggestions for me to look at would be welcomed.

What nic level are you currently? Sub-ohming gives you a big dose, so you need to lower than what you are at currently.

Another good point I hadn't considered. I'm on 12 at the moment, you figure 9 would be a good starting point?

No, half that at least. I'm at 12, and 6 is even a touch much on a .5 coil for me.(edit- for chaining)

I just got the Reuleaux rx2/3, and run it in the 2 battery config. I love this thing! I vape around 1 ohm, so it lasts me all day. It's a little out of your specified price range, and you will need to buy batteries and a charger, but it will do anything you want to throw at it. Sub ohm at 200+ watts, above ohm at 18 watts. Very versatile.

Excellent point! I vape a 0 so I forget to mention that. Nice catch! Safety and health are always first!

Hi guys, I've took the plunge on an eLeaf iStick TC40W.

I'm reasonably happy with it because I can go through the last of my Nautilus Mini coils at 9W before I decide to move on to subohming. I'm trying to understand vaping electrical safety through various guides and videos but I'm not confident to put my money where my mouth is as yet.

Any suggestions for reasonably priced subohm tanks that will work well with this mod?

Thanks for any info.

TBH i don't know of many sub ohm tanks that will work at 40 watts or less. The clieto is a great sub ohm tank for cheap. if you only use the .4 ohm coils you should be OK at 40 watts.

Ok thanks, I might give that a go and upgrade my mod at a later date.

Stupid question, what's the purpose of VW mods if they don't even output the wattage to supply a subohm tank? Is it just to allow for different tanks and coils?

depends on the mod. for under 40 watts it's usually not for sub ohm vaping. Those are usually for tight draw MTL tanks that run low wattage. for sub ohm tanks usually you want 70-100 watt mods to power them. That gives you a DTL vape with more flavor and clouds. or in some cases tanks like the TFV8 need a 150 watt mod.

VW mods are nice becuase you can adjust them for your build or tank you are using easily. with a 150 watt mod i can switch tanks between a nautulus mini (MTL around 20 watts) a cleito (DTL around 40-65 watts) a TFV8 (130 watts) and customize your vape to how you like it. With a mechanical mod you need to build around the power of the battery as you can't adjust it and your vape experience goes down as batteries get weaker. VW mods give you more consistency too.

Great breakdown there, thank you. Perhaps I should have gone for the 100w model.

Do you have any links to good information regarding batteries? I didn't want to risk making a mistake with a non-USB rechargeable mod at the moment.

Cheets.

the LG Hg2 or Samsung 30q are overall the best choices for regulated mods. Thats what I run in all my mods
Some people do prefer the samsung 25R over them though but IMO not needed unless you buy a single battery 70 watt mod or higher.

You can buy them from illumn.com or liionwholesale.com I purchase mine from illumn.com personally becuase they are in the same state as me (California) so shipping is super fast, but liionwhosale.com is also reputable and good to purchase from

Also realistically, you should charge your batteries directly form a mod unless the batteries are built in. External chargers are cheap and highly recommended. Xtar is considered the best brand, i use nitecore and haven't had any issues with them and a 4 bay I4 nitecore is like 10 bucks

Alright that sounds great, thanks. Will look into it more when I have the cash to do it.

I found this guy that seems to be doing okay with a Cleito at 40W (if you can bare his irritating voice). Do you think I would be able to emulate that with the eLeaf TC40W until I can buy a higher wattage mod?

Great stuff. I think I'll use it as a stop gap until I can upgrade.

Thanks for the information man, I appreciate it.

the nautilus x sub ohm tank runs at about 15 to 20 watts. I do not have one but i looked at one the other day because of the size. its a small profile and should be fine with your eleaf 30w

But if you upgraded to a 40w eleaf, which i use as my pocket mod, Kangertech is always a good option, they are cheap and you can get them in various colours! I personally own 2x kanger tanks, great for beginners.
