TURN is back with a new subtitle, a generally quicker pace, and a greater sense of mission. "Washington's Spies" is actually the title of the Alexander Rose book that the series is based on, and while I feel TURN is a more elegant title, more power to AMC if the change brings in more viewers. While the two-hour premiere was actually two episodes ("Thoughts of a Free Man" and "Hard Boiled"), I'm reviewing them together.

After spending all of last year in the Colonies, it was nice to start this season in England with mad King George III and a shockingly clean-cut Robert Rogers. Last year was all about Abe's being brought into the rebel fold, but now we're shown a spy in the King's court who ultimately gives her life to pass stolen intelligence in a bust of the king headed to America, underscoring that Abe is just one player on a vast canvas of agents. The recovery of said document has been tasked to Rogers, a shot at redemption that should be fun in the hands of the always compelling Angus Macfadyen.
