Twisting kanthal and ni200

Since on steam engine there is no way to choose 2 different gauge wires for twisting (which would be an awesome feature to add cause there are builds that I want to do but I don't want to just guess and waste wire) so if I twist 30 gauge kanthal and 30 gauge ni200 would I just choose round on steam engine. And I guess I would choose kanthal in the drop down list

Someone who knows more will chime in, but I seem to remember reading that it's the nickel that will be read, not the kanthal.

Electricity will follow the path of the least resistance. The n200 will be carrying around 95 percent of the current. The kanthal will act as primarily a heat sink. I would plug in nickel on Steam Engine. And definitely use TC mode on your mod.

And from what I have read when twisting the nickel and kanthal you don't space it like nickel. Is that true?

I have ran both spaced and contact wrapped nickel coils. I personally haven't noticed a difference. Some on here would say otherwise. I would say that you are safe as long as you keep your resistance within the specs of your mod...

When you say you run them either way is that just with twisted or did you do it with nickel only

You can use steam engine's wire wizard for calculating the resistance.

Both nickel only and a few twisted coils that I made (3 strands 30 guage, 2x kanthal 1x n200). Just saying I never noticed much of a resistance difference whether spaced or contact coils. Using straight n200 vs using n200 twisted with kanthal, like I said before the nickel will be carrying all most all of the electrical load. All you are doing with the kanthal is adding surface area to your coil. You might EVER SO SLIGHTLY change the temperature/resistance curve of your coil vs using straight n200,, but not enough to make a difference.

When you did the nickel builds did you space them and does that really make a difference, and along the same line if I wanted to do. 26g 24g twist how would I calculate it to know how many wraps to get the ohms I want
