Twitter has announced it will be expanding the character limit for Direct Messages from 140 to 10,000.
"We’ve done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and have much more exciting work on the horizon," the company explained in its official announcement. "One change coming in July that we want to make you aware of now (and first!) is the removal of the 140 character limit in Direct Messages."
While there's no specific date on when the change will take effect, a July launch window was provided. It's also worth noting that this won't affect the current 140 character limit on actual Tweets, as those will remain unchanged.
