There is a Skottie Young variant cover for Ultimate End #1 that shows Brian Michael Bendis dropping a microphone as the characters of the Ultimate Marvel Universe walk away from him. The image is both amusing (look at the smug look on his face) and sad.
It’s sad for what it represents - that this universe, a universe that brought so many new or lapsed readers into the world of Marvel comic books, is seemingly and finally coming to an end. It’s appropriate that Bendis would be the one featured on the cover dropping the mic, and the one given the task to write this final series. Bendis, more than any other writer not named “Mark Millar”, shaped what we think of Earth-1610. And just about all of that, for good or ill, is on display in the first issue of this goodbye miniseries.
