unmarried batterys is it dangerous to use

the guy at the vape shop said it would just ruin the life of the batterys,they are the same brand everything
just thought i would get one more oppinion
using one battery from the married set in something else doesnt do any more or less damage to a battery cell.
Married sets are just an attempt to keep two batteries performing at the same level.
I can pick any two of my batteries and charge them then use them in one of my regulated mods and when its time to change out batteries they both have the same voltage left in them.
You will technically just not have a "married " set of batteries anymore.
