The first episode of Ushio and Tora doesn’t bring many surprises, but it serves as a great introduction to the comedic pair and establishes a great tone for the series. Even better, studios MAPPA and Studio Vlon are able to transfer the look and essence of the original Ushio and Tora ‘90s manga to the new anime perfectly.
The first episode begins with the tale of the Beast Spear, which lays the foundation for Ushio and Tora’s future partnership. I’d say it’d be nice to have their pact as more of a surprise, but with the name of the series, the opening theme, and the episode title (The Fate that Brings Ushio and Tora Together) there’s no hiding what happens between the kid and the demon. Regardless, the episode is still a ton of fun as it lays out the tone for rest of the series.
