Using Crown SS coil with D2 in TC mode.

I tried searching, sorry if this has come up. Been looking at all the info on SS coils on TC mods. I understand few have TC support. I recently got a Crown and D2 for TC. I like their Ni200 coil. Was going to try the SS coils since they are free. I come from a Subtank mini with RBA and finally got tired of burnt hits. Could never go above 20w on m Cloupor min. Not a cloud chaser....

Anyhoo... said what the heck... tried the .25 dual SS coil which I liked. Put it in TC mode and turned it down to 212 (50j). Well... not much. I was in Ni200 profile. Kept going... to 300, resistance would top out at .33 and stay there. Cool vape. Seemed to be regulating. Switched to Ti profile. Reset resistance (.25ohm). Did the same... 50 joules, 212, cool vape. Resistance topped at .33. Put it to 260F, went to .34 ohms. It's where I like it. I could not tell you what actual temp is on SS.

My next step I guess would be to actually trash a coil and see what settings cotton burns at. I'm trying to figure out if I can juke the settings... meaning, set up for Ti, reset resistance at Crown Ni200 coil at .15 (use a Ni200 coil) Replace with SS Crown dual coil of .25 (or .50)... then figure out what settings cotton burns at and if it regulates.

I've also wondered... with SS's really flat temp/resistance profile, if I could put some heat into the coil, then reset resistance (would be artificially high)... to fake the curve down? Meaning real room temp resistance is .25. Heat till say .5. Reset resistance. It would top out say at .75 ohm... but on the Ti profile, it would be in a more reasonable range???

After looking at the temp curve for SS on Steam Engine... that curve tells me I will never reach temp regulation because max SS temp of 800F is 1.3 ohm... which correlates to below my D2 minimum setting of 212 for Ni/Ti. Yet my D2 does seem to be limiting temp with what I'm doing now.

Any thoughts?

SS TCR is very low. D2's chip is not that precise to measure such small resistance changes.

Exactly. The band on SS is very narrow. Needs to be really precise. Never the less, mine seems to be doing its job. Cool vape... Nowhere near 75w in power mode.

OK, so I'm wrong... 50j at 572 it still tops out at. 33 ohm. So I am never reaching temp limit.

So just for anyone else... Ni200 coil that reads point 201 on my iPV D2 when I set it. Set at 375F it tops out at point 44 ohm on my readout. Point 24 rise to temp limit.

My. 25 SS coil reads. 26 ohms. Tops out at. 33 ohm. 34. Only a point 07 resistance rise for max.

Seems I would have to set it up for low nickle coil. Then put in a….40 SS coil, then the nickle setting would limit it to •44 ohm. That should be in the middle of the temp range. Even though temp actual temp would be unknown, and accuracy would have a wide error margin.

It really sounds like P4Y needs to hurry up with a SS profile, and accuracy might not be as good as Ni200 or Ti.

So tried the •5 SS coil in TC. I put the nickle in to reset resistance, then tried to fire the SS. Must be too much of a difference in ohm... Wouldn't fire. Just keeps saying no liquid. Fires fine in power mode. Oh well.

Okay, so *IF* I understand correctly, the bottom line is that the D2 is NOT a good mod to try SS TC. I, for one, appreciate the info as I was considering picking up the Crown to give this a shot myself. I still want the Crown, but at least I know I don't need to waste my time screwing around with SS on it.

The crown is definitely worth it. The nickle coil is really good. Hopefully they will switch to titanium. But SS is just too different. No way to fake it out or get it where it needs to be.

I actually want the build deck too, I like building my own Ni200 coils. I have heard really good things about the pre-made coils though, so I might get some and see how long they last me.
