Uwell Yearn Neat 2 review

Introduction

Love them or hate them, pod systems are most certainly here to stay.

As much as I love the ritual of a wrapping wire around a rod, securing it into the deck of an RTA and getting my wicking spot on, there’s no denying the convenience of a pod.

A couple of years ago, pod systems were very much hit or miss – maybe it would wick correctly, maybe the coil would last more than a couple of refills, maybe you might get something close to flavor, but this very far from being the case now, I haven’t had a shit pod system in a long time, neither have I had a dud coil, or something with no flavor.

So where does the Uwell Yearn Neat 2 fit into the scheme of things as far as pods are concerned?

First Impressions

Initially, I thought this was a disposable vape – the box is tiny, the pod system comes in a rip-to-open package and there’s no cables.

Sometimes, I really enjoy the classy packaging and presentation of a vape, this is the exact opposite of that, I’ve had chocolate bars with more extravagant packaging.

Once I worked out that it is neither a disposable vape nor a chocolate bar, I was greeted with very light plastic pod system with one pod fitted, no adjustable anything, autodraw only.

If that’s all I’m getting, this had better be cheap. TL; DR – it’s very cheap.

Specs

According to Uwell’s website the Yearn Neat 2 is:

  • 22×11.5×102.5mm
  • 27.9g
  • 2ml pod capacity
  • 520mAh battery
  • 0.9ohm coil
  • 12W maximum output
  • PC/PCTG body
  • Type-C charging
How to use it?

Charging will require your own type-C cable, with charge levels being indicated by an LED on the front of the mod.

The pod has a side-fill system, I’d rather have top-fill, but at least the opening is nice and wide and the rubber pull tab is easy to grab hold of.

Performance

  • Battery – this is my main issue with the Neat 2 – while the battery charges quickly, it’s not going to last a full day of vaping.
  • Vape Quality - and this is what I like the most about the Neat 2, it’s a nice vape, clear and accurate flavor, with fruit and pastries, and a decent throat hit.
  • Autodraw – nicely sensitive, no complaints here.
  • Pod quality - mine hasn’t died or lost flavor, despite numerous refills. Neither have there been any leaks. The pod is tinted, but juice levels are easy to see.
  • Airflow - non-adjustable, but a well judged MTL draw.
Price

This is where the Neat 2 suddenly became a little more interesting, Most places have it for $15-20, and it can be picked up as cheaply as $10.

Ratings

  • Value – 8/10 – it doesn’t come with a charging cable and only comes with one pod, otherwise 10/10
  • Quality – 5/10 – everything works just fine, but there’s no escaping the fact that it’s a plastic pod system.
  • Vape – 8/10 – good flavor/good throat hit.
  • Ease of use – 9/10 – there aren’t really any mistakes that could be made when using it. A top-fill port would have given it 10/10.
Conclusion

If you prefer lightweight over solidity, or just don’t want to spend a lot of money on a pod system, the Neat 2 is a decent choice.

I’d prefer something a little more substantial and weighty, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to someone looking for a back-up vape or for a new vaper.
