I thought I would throw this out to the VU peanut gallery to get some ideas.

The Mrs. And I have a couple of air travel vouchers good for any destination in the continental United States that we have to use or lose soon.

We have spent a fair amount of time in Florida, California, Las Vegas,Texas, Seattle, DC, Virginia and Massachusetts and are looking for new destinations with interesting things to do and see.

One additional thing, I am not a huge fan of really hot and muggy climates.

Thanks in advance for the ideas!

i would suggest somewhere in the mountains..
find a good log cabin, with access to a stream..
fishing poles, a bonfire, cook out, drinks and vape..
what more could you want?

and this time of year.. very little bugs! :)

I would tend to agree if I could lug a bunch of books.

Sadly, not for the Mrs.

Charleston, SC is pretty nice in the spring, hot and humid being relative of course. Lots of historical places to visit. If you rent a car Savannah, GA is a couple hours. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopi...on_to_Savannah-Charleston_South_Carolina.html
Lots of civil war history in both.

NYC in the spring is also very nice. Always something to do and no need to rent a car. My favorite free things are walking around to look at architecture and people watch. Grand Central Station, the churches and cathedrals, around St. Marks for punk sightings and good cheap food, midtown shopping for almost anything...I love it there.

How bout Philly? You have all the history and tons of museum's in the area and you can catch a train down to Atlantic City for about $8 if that's your fancy!

Maine offers me what I look for in a VK. Peace and quiet, beaches, lighthouses, and some pretty good restaurants. The further north you go, the more peace and quiet. I'm not a big fan of crowds like Cape Cod in the summertime. Maine in spring or early fall works great for me. Don't expect to swim at anytime as the water is frigid year round

Good Idea.

Want lots of stuff to go visit and stuff to see.

Sadly just sitting and relaxing not my thing as I get bored really quick.

Swimming is a lot like bathing so also not that much interested

Good point.

Need extra large accommodations so my "Weenie" is kept in luxury and comfort and is stimulated by the accommodations at the same time.

New Orleans in the spring! And, if you do choose NOLA, will you and your wife take me with you? Pretty please? The Jazz and Heritage Festival is coming up, but there's SO much to see and hear and do (and eat and drink️) without any special events or festivals!

"US News & World Report ranks New Orleans
#2in Best Alternative Spring Break Destinations
#4in Best Nightlife Scenes in the USA
#6in Best Affordable Destinations in the USA
#8in Best Historic Destinations in the USA"
http://travel.usnews.com/New_Orleans_LA/Things_To_Do/ --> USN&WR is good for highlighting the major tourist attractions and destinations, historic sights, etc., in various US cities. But all those various off-the-beaten-track/lesser known gems of the region websites which have proliferated over the last decade are also great must-read resources for the would-be traveler.

Wherever you choose to vacation, laissez les bon temps rouler, UncleRJ!

I'll give a +1 to Maine, I'm originally from New Hampshire and I loved going up there to get away from things. If you're into history there are some awesome revolutionary war forts all along the coast and everyone should spend some time in Acadia National Park, it's a beautiful place (when the weather cooperates).

I can recommend you don't come to South Dakota lol... Boooooring here. Our biggest attraction is faces carved in a mountain side, pretty cool to see in person for about 5 seconds and that's about it! My dream vacation is an epic fishing trip on any of the Great Lakes, I would enjoy that more than our wedding/honeymoon in Maui I bet. Talk about hot, humid, and windy. Not to mention the brutal flight. Was fun to go there once, but that was enough for me.

As someone who lives in the Gatlinburg area, my advice would be to avoid it at all possible. Unless you enjoy long lines, and terrible traffic.
Why would you say that? I didn't say go downtown Gatlinburg, there are plenty of wonderful and beautiful places that don't involve traffic..

PA was pretty nice ...visited the Hershey factory and you could smell the chocolate in the air miles before you get there...you get to take a small tour of the factory and its history...The last stop was a huge warehouse full of candy you didnt even know hershey made...they give you a bag you get to fill to the top with whatever, for free....Also visited the historic gettysburgh battle field..that was pretty awesome...Some old houses still standing with canon ball holes in them..much of the cannons still facing in the directions they were fired back then and a pretty cool lincoln monument...other than that ,alot of nice historic scenery.

There are plenty of beautiful places without traffic......in the middle of winter. Getting anywhere this time of year is a fucking nightmare.

I'd say Colorado for sure. Mountains, scenery, excellent fishing this time of year, and dozens of micro and craft breweries to choose from!

Don't come here or our northern neighbor Kansas, we ain't got crap, except for horse cow and pig crap. I enjoyed Charleston SC, very historical and it was cool, but that was over 10 yrs ago, all kinds of civil war stuff if you're in to that kinda thing. Just don't go to Mexico, not just cuz of the water.

Haha but Oklahoma has so much...... So much...... ok, nevermind it's pretty boring lol. I have to go up there for work a lot and last time we were up we got directions to our field site from one of the local guys. I quote, "go down the road til you get to the tree and turn left." Sure enough, driving down the only road through the area, come over a little rise and there's a single tree a few miles down.
