Heavy Metal has a special treat for comic book fans this Valentine's Day. The company recently published "Valentine," a sci-fi-flavored take on the legend of St. Valentine, and they're making the full story available to read for free.

Check out the slideshow gallery below to read this dark and twisted spin on a familiar story:

"Valentine" boasts some considerable Hollywood pedigree, as it's co-written by Scream star David Arquette and Warrior co-writer Cliff Dorfman. "Valentine" is illustrated by Wonder Woman's Bernard Chang.

"Valentine" was originally published in January's Heavy Metal #313, which is available now in print and digitally via Comixology and GlobalComix. Here's the full description for that issue:

Heavy Metal kicks off a new year of publishing the best science-fiction, fantasy, and horror stories in the comic book industry! David Arquette (Scream 5) and Cliff Dorfman introduce their new historical fiction tale Valentine, Ryan K. Lindsay and Sebastian Piriz conclude the saga of Black Beacon, Savage Circus comes to a gruesome end by Brendan Columbus and Al Barrionuevo, Matthew Medney's Darkwing reaches its penultimate chapter with German Ponce, the high-flying fantasy series Starward by Steve Orlando and Ivan Shavrin heads toward its final act, and legendary former Marvel E-I-C Jim Shooter discusses being blacklisted in comics in a no holds barred interview!

In related news, Chang also participated in the Super Bowl Experience promotion, where he created a series of artwork that reinterprets NFL helmets through the lens of Chinese opera. That art is now being auctioned to benefit Los Angeles' Asian and Pacific Islander communities. You can learn more about that auction on Chang's Instagram page.

Chang is also a co-creator of The Monkey Prince, a new Asian hero who debuted in 2021's DC Festival of heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration. That character has now spun out into his own Monkey Prince series, which launched on February 1.
