Vaping my first DIY

Hi all,

Last week I made my first batch of DIY e-juice. 70%VG/30%PG, 2 mg nic strawberry flavored

As it happens, today is the day I ran out of store bought. So a quick cleaning and coil change later here I sit vaping my own e-juice.

It may not be the best but it is good and it does give me an idea of what I can do in the future.

I will have a ton of questions in the future when it comes to recipe building but for now I think I'm going to sit back and enjoy this batch for what it is - a good start.

Congrats. My first diy was horrific. I always vape the bad ones tho it tells you something about what not to do. Good luck.

Thanks mattdarat, but to be honest I did play it safe by going with strawberry. Hard to mess up a one flavor juice.

Glad you are liking yours enough to vape it. My first was excellent, the second and third, not so much, lol.

Now it's all I vape but it took awhile, lots of trial and error, but well worth the effort

I agree JuicyLucy. It feels good to make my own but in all actuality it came from more of a budget perspective. Can't believe how affordable it is to just mix my own.

You've done a wise thing, especially with regulations up in the air. I started mixing my own two years ago for the same reason because truthfully, I really wasn't saving all that much as opposed to smoking when I considered the cost of vendor juice and replacement coils. I learned to mix, then I learned to build, and then the savings started to become apparent. But I'll never forget that feeling of accomplishment when I took that first hit of my own mix - it was a single flavor juice, made with Lorann's watermelon - I thought I was the "master" for sure....LOL!!
Make others' recipes, there are thousands here. They'll also give you ideas for your own. Take notes, and plenty of them. Ask questions, there are many, many good mixers here that are more than willing to help. And most of all, enjoy yourself.

The long term goal would be to DIY my own coils but I just don't feel confident in that yet to try it. The thought of venting a battery near my face because of a bad coil build makes me nervous because I have a healthy respect for electricity.
To that point I think I will start my DIY path with juices. Once I learn a lot more about ohms law and coil building/ battery pairing I may change my mind and give coil building a shot. For now though I am happy to chug along making juices.

I started diy 2 months ago and have stuck to 3 recipes consistently. Strawberry nesquick, polar bear, and flawless aftermath clone.

I'm not ready to attempt clones yet so I think for now I will make single flavors in small batches until I get a reasonable feeling of what flavor percentages I like.

It is hard to go wrong with a well reviewed clone recipe if you have all of the flavors (or something similar you can sub with) to make the recipe as outlined by the creator. That is how I started to get some bigger batches made and steeping before moving on to single flavor testing to be able to make my own recipes from scratch now. I have 2 - 2.5 liters of clones steeping now and will continue to make 300 - 500 ML of clones (using TPA/CAP/FW flavors I first bought) per month so I always have decent, well steeped, juice on hand while I work on testers of my own recipes and variations of clones using Real Flavor's Super Concentrates that I have decided to switch over to.

Nice thing about DIY is there are no wrong ways to do it.

Pretty good idea sticking to single flavors at first. You'll get to know all your flavors nuances inside and out, making it a little easier once you starting mixing them together. Good luck!

Congrats, and welcome to the rabbit hole! DIY is very rewarding but it does have a few drawbacks that you'll become familiar with soon enough... 1. For just about every recipe you find that sounds good, you'll be short one crucial ingredient. 2. No matter how hard you try to be thorough when placing a flavor order, five seconds after placing said order you'll find one or two that you forgot to order or find a new one you want to try. It's the curse of DIY, get used to it!

They are similar. I was big into homebrewing many years ago. I need to get back into that one day. I used to brew a mean IPA and Belgian Trippel.

Every time I make one that is just "so-so", I vape it anyway. I tell myself, "Even bad juice tastes better than a Marlboro.". Well... I haven't made one that tastes worse, YET.

I get what you mean. Currently vaping my way through a 'meh' at best lemonade vape. Going to go through all 30ml so I can get an idea of how to make it better next time.

Little status update.

Today I am vaping my first good batch - and by "good" I mean if I had paid $10 for it I would be happy with this purchase. (Strawberry Cream).

It's not $15 good, but I'm working on it.

If anyone is on the fence about trying to DIY e-juice, you should give it a go, the trial and error part is a lot of fun.

I've made some $20 good ones in the past couple of weeks. I know for sure that I paid close to $20 for a 30 ml bottle of the one that I'm vaping right now. I't easy and delicious. Butterscotch. I bought it from the vape shop when I got my first starter kit. It was one of the flavors that facilitated my switch to vaping. I bought it several times in the first few weeks that I vaped. I started vaping on Nov 1, 2013 and started DIY'ing on Jan 4, 2014. Bought my last premade juice on 1/25/14. Over 2 years, I tried every Butterscotch flavor I could find. It turned out to be Flavor West Butterscotch.

Get some of that. Somewhere between 15% and 20% will get you a commercial tasting Butterscotch ejuice.
