Venom has earned the record for the highest grossing film in North America during an October film preview window with a $10 million preview night on Thursday.
As reported by Variety, Venom is expected to earn upwards of $70 million by the end of its opening weekend, which would put it above the current opening weekend gross for an October film set by Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity when it earned $55.8 million in 2013.
A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga and writer/director/producer Bradley Cooper also had a strong preview window, earning $4.6 million in previews. Though it didn’t have as strong of a preview period as Venom, its highly-positive reception could keep momentum going, as analysts predict it will reach up to $30 million by the end of its opening weekend. Venom holds a $100 million budget while A Star Is Born has a reported production cost of around $36 million.
