For my second vaperversary, I decided to treat myself with a new setup... After looking around a bit, I decided to go whole hog and get one of the new Seven 30 mods and the KangerTech Giant Aerotanks...
So two weeks ago, it arrived in the mail and I was delighted. I got some of the normal coil replacements and a box of the new sub-ohm coils in .8 ohms to give it a try.
I enjoyed the new setup very much, and only had one complaint. Only thing I didn't like, and it seems to be the same in the Seven22, is that it can't step down the wattage and will just "dump" the voltage to the tank... Phil Pbusardo also mentions this in his review of the Seven22...
So for instance, I have it set to the minimum 7 watts and my battery is 4.09v, using an Aspire Nautilus with a 1.7 ohm coil, when I press the fire button the wattage display goes to 9.6watts... That in itself is not so much and issue, but I have the new Kanger Giant tank on it and been trying the .8 ohm (sub-ohm) coil ... On the minimum setting, on a fresh battery, it jumps to about 15-18 watts and gives you a fried taste if you hit it more than 3-4 seconds...
If you are using a coil that is 2.0ohms or higher, this isn't an issue, as 4.2volts on a freshly charged battery makes it very close to 7watts...
Then last saturday, I filled my tank as I had about 8-10 times before, and screwed it back onto the mod. Pressed the fire button and it seemed to work, but got no vape... Pressed it again, same same... Took the tank off, pulled it all apart, cleaned the coils, put it all together, put it back on again, still no vape. About the third button press, I saw a "Short" message on the screen...
Also, I noticed that the resistance on the display reads about twice what it should...
Pulled the tank off, and put it on one of my other vw mods, and it worked just fine... Tried another tank on the Seven30, and it appears to work, but get no vape... Pull that tank off, works fine on another vw mod... Tried a third tank, same same...
So, being I was 12 days of my 14 days of the EBAY return policy, I wrote my vendor and told them my story. They did write back and ask what tanks I had been using, so I told them and mentioned that I had also tried a freshly charged battery...
Then looking at their item sale page on EBAY, I noticed this in big red letters:
"** READ ** 07/10/2014 - There have been several reports, and we have confirmed, that there are issues when using Kanger Aerotank Mega or Giant with this mod. It either reports a "short" or "low resistance" on the LCD read out and does not fire. Please be informed of this before purchasing this item. ** "
So apparently, there is an issue with the 510 positive pin on the Seven30 MOD... I asked the vendor for a little clarification on the issue and what the normal warranty was on the device, so I could explain it better for you guys, who might follow in my footsteps... Here was the response:
"1) A one year warranty from the manufacturer, should be honored by authorized seller/dealer as we are.
2) After investigation on a couple of 7-30's we found the center pin (positive) to be off center. With the Aerotanks series the positive pin (7-30) tends to make contact with the outer post (threads/negative on Aerotank) even if the center pin is a little more than slightly off. If you can really tell that the pin is off center, it will create a short or read as low resistance. It can be corrected, as there is a little movement in the pin, by pushing/forcing the pin back to center. To do this you unscrew the little screw a hair, push it back to center and screw it back in. This issues is primarily dominant with the Aerotank series.
Now, the question as to what you want to do. We can open up a box, check the center pin and correct if needed. Package it up and send it your way with the return label for the other one. Or, if you wish to give up on the 7-30 simply start a return with eBay and a label will be generated for you (we pay for postage). Once we receive the mod in return we will issue a refund.
Please advise us of your option."
Looking at it, I couldn't tell that is was off center, not even with my reading glasses under bright light... But I do notice that the positive pin on the Naultilus is spring loaded and protrudes a little bit on a finer point, which the Aerotanks do not...
I really like the Seven30 mod, and the Giant Aerotank looks superb on top... I don't want to fry another one, but I did want another mod rather than a refund, so they are shipping me one... I guess I will use my Aspire Naultilus and my RBA tanks on it from here on out...
