I just got my Kanger Subox Mini and now i need some batteries.

What is the BEST 18650 battery to compliment my Subox mini?

Ive seen batteries with higher mAh cost less than batteries with lower mAh and im confused as to why. Could someone explain?

This is my first box mod, so im a newbie. Thanks for all and any replies!

I would suggest Samsung 25R and nothing else.

The higher mAh are probably cheaper beacuse of their lower Amp rating.

Also, the rating is higher than what they claim. Supposedly the new efest 2800mah ones with a 35a constant/80a pulse are these rewrapped. I don't imagine it being toooo far off. I have both and are good. They don't heat up at fast and as much under high load from super sub builds.

I've seen tests going up to 30A. They can do 20 A continuous just fine. 30A discharge caused a permanent capacity loss after the first run, so basically that high an amperage is damaging the cell. No way I'd go over 20A with them. They were breaking their neck to compete with Samsung and had to compromise by putting out a cell with less headroom for over Ampage than their previous efforts in my opinion.

80A pulse would just be daft with these. LG don't specify that it can be pulsed, and just giving an amp figure for a pulse spec doesn't make sense. A pulse is a specific amperage for a specific time period.

Plenty better batteries to super sub ohm with than these.

Most of the extra capacity comes from LG specifying a cut off voltage of 2V for the HG2 rather than the usual 2.5V. Thus means most of the increase over 2500mAh cells lies in the portion where the cell is dropping from 2.5V to 2V under load. Since we never get the cell that low, we aren't going to see a huge capacity increase. Maybe 200mAh if we're lucky.

They're a decent cell for a box mod of 60W (single cell) or 120W (dual cell) but they're no super sub ohm battery in my opinion.

Just my opinion though, and opinions are like arse holes, everyone has one.

Samsung 25R (2500mah/20 amp)
LG HE2 (2500mah/20amp)
LG HE4 (2500mah/20amp)
LG HG2 (3000mah/20amp)
Sony VTC3 (1600mah/30amp)
Sony VTC4 (2100amp/30amp) watch for counterfeits
Sony VTC5 (2600mah/20amp) watch for counterfeits. Can do 30amp in controlled cooling conditions.

Everybody else, an overpriced re wrap and can blow me.

I shop here for Sony VTC's, LG HE or HG or Samsung 25'r batteries.

The reason is that there are two competing specs that make batteries better.

One is mAh, which is how much energy it holds.

And the other is the discharge rating in amps. That's how fast the battery can supply power without getting overheated or damaged.

Those two specs are incompatible. Think of it like cars. You can get a car that gets good mpg or has high horsepower. Car makers are slowly being able to eke out more of both but in general at any given time you can either buy a gas thirsty v12 that has 600 hp or you can buy a little honda with a small motor that gets high mpg. Alternately, you can buy a crappy old technology car for cheap that has less of both mpg and horsepower. Batteries are the same way.

Pretty much the premier battery for discharge rating (the equivalent of the lamborgini) is the Sony VTC4. It has 2100mAh and a conservative 30A rating.

The premier battery for mAh (the equivalent of a prius or something), you're not concerned with as vapers because you guys need a lot of power. But just for reference they have 3500mAh ones now but with much lower discharge ratings.

Then there are good compromise batteries in the high 2500-3000mAh range that have pretty high discharge ratings and pretty high mAh ratings but not the best of either.

And finally there are the cheapies that don't really do anything well but are cheap.

You can see the list that Mike H gave above to see the best in each of those categories

The sub box mini will only fire attys down to .3 ohms given the voltage of a freshly charged battery at 4.2 volts this is only 14 amps. The samsung 30q is a 15 amp battery at 3000 mah covering your amp needs with a longer battery life. Illumn.com sells em for 6.50 usd...but I would suggest buying a decent 1 amp charger rather than using the built in usb

The lg hg2 is another 3000 mah battery wit a 20 amp limit althoughif you keep your builds above .4 ohms LG makes the mj1... a 10 amp 3500 mah battery...max battery life and still subohming gotta love it.

In a regulated mod the resistance of your coil doesn't enter into the equation when determining amp draw on the battery side of the chip, only the available voltage from the battery (amp draw actually increases as available voltage decreases) and your output setting. http://www.steam-engine.org/modrange.asp shows the Subox Mini with a maximum current draw of 12 amps set by the chip. So 15 amps is sufficient and 20 amps more than.

Adding to the Samsung 25R shout-outs here, our B&M recommends them.

This must be the fourth VU thread I've seen mentioning LiionWholesale in the past two days.
