Crimson Peak, Del Toro's latest work of Gothic horror, takes place at the advent of the electrical age and focusses on a crumbling, Victorian mansion, people caught between the past and future, and of course, ghosts.

IGN recently spoke with the director about his new film, and he was keen to talk about his treatment of ghosts differ from what you see elsewhere and how his tastes run slightly counter to what you typically see on the big screen. The big difference? Del Toro doesn't believe in obscuring his creations. "I always show you the monster," he tells me. "I always want things to be up front. I want to show you the faun, the kaiju, and the ghost in the Devil's Backbone. Because the scariest things in my stories, in my opinion, are the humans."
