Mech and drippers at home and at shops, regulated box and tanks everywhere else.
Mechs, and all bottom feeders.
OK @franciscan , I'm going to have to agree that mech box mods have a little life left in them. But most likely not much, but yes they are still relevant.
The local guy that built by dual 18650 and dual LiPo boxes is looking to make another with the SX350 chip. He also makes 3 and 4 18650 boxes both with and without VV potentiometres. So there is still development going on the the box world.

The SX350 is a really nice board, I built a couple and they work great. Ofc, the SX350 V250 250w is coming out in Dec. But that's just insane, although I do want to see what their temp control on that board is. I haven't seen any details about that feature yet.
For a lot of people mechs are the answer. I'm a trucker and the electronics in regulated mods take a pounding in my truck(its killed three so far). My Reo on the other hand takes a beating and keeps on chucking vapor.
Good luck selling that at a cloud comp.
When you look at the current popularity trend I don't think it would be easy to dispute that high wattage regulated mods are taking the vape world by storm. I just don't think mechs have anything new to offer that will slow that progression. I own more than a few mechs, and a few regulated mods and yes, I like them all. But, I just don't see the trend turning back to mechs. I've been wrong before, but I just don't see it going any other way.
Yes box mods have passed mechs in performance but do you really need 180W?
Its hard to get an accurate picture on the "trend" in vaping. I thought cartomizers were long dead, but apparently, they are still in production and in high demand. Speaking of which, I've recently seen quite a lot of cigalikes that look like stainless steel cartomizers. The tip lights up with a white LED and looks like it kicks out quite a bit of vapor. No idea who makes it, maybe I'll ask the next time I see one being used as I am curious myself.
As for what I usually see being used in public, 8 out 10 times its a kanger/aspire type topper on what looks like either a thick ego battery or Zmax type mod.
Speaking of which, could anyone who has gone to a vape expo chime in on what the majority of devices and toppers are being carried around?

There are still a LOT of people like me that have no need or desire to vape at high watts. I have one inexpensive regulated mod and 4 mechs. At home, I use nothing but mechs, driving it's the MVP2, at work its another mech. To each his own, but to say everyone wants big power is just plain wrong.

Cleaning..sometimes maintaining different aspects of it..I don't know why people refer to it as "tinkering." Edit- people like you and I rebuilding frequently..but most of the time that's painless.

I started with an MVP2 and clearomizers. Got a rba, rda and 30w device now. Regulated is more practical for me to start with and rely on to stay off tobacco and I like the expanded options they offer. My next purchase will be a mech. Having a simple device that has no electronics to fail and no built in parameters I'm forced to stay within will allow me to tinker all I want. For me vaping has become more than just a method of nic delivery. It's a bit of a hobby. I want to play in the regulated AND mech world. The evolution of regulated devices may be currently the focus, but I don't think mechs will ever be dead.

Yeah...it's great that there are many high wattage devices, many really good ones at low prices, but the clouper update issues with a lot of miss are a sign of concern for me.. *jesus-forgot lol..edit- So users don't need to get overwhelmed with the information I think is necessary to use mechs safely.*
Battery tech needs to evolve more, for us that prefer using mechs,* to appreciate regulated mods more - but the chip aspect will always be bitched about.* I only use my ipv out of the convenience really..just leave the house..just plug it up if needed while driving..yada-yada..kills the battery faster, but I'm also using only one battery at a time..my mechs, I usually have at least 4 batteries for..I need to replace all mine actually...I blow up old cells(in a contained environment! I'm not causing any littering!)

Regulated Box...I go for flavor so my fixation would be that each juice is very specific on a set watt according to the build I am using. I am constantly adjusting every-time I switch tanks which usually I keep 5 flavors in rotation. Anyhow, it's enough to keep my mind going when I am not busy working

I love playing with my builds on a mech. My builds long surpassed my 6v regulated smoktech gripper months ago. I only use it to read my ohms now, lol. But i do have a Hana 30w mini v3 coming in soon that i plan on moding to hold a 18650 battery. I wanted an APV that i could pocket and run at least a .5ohm build on. And for $52 from fasttech, i was like, why the heck not!
I plan on getting a 26650 mech mod next. That will be a bit of an investment because i will need everything for it including a new charger. I'm thinking the tree of life clone and an ehpro big buddah. I can see it now *drools*
