So, Ive made a steady progression lately from a tfv4 micro to a tf-rta.
When I got my tf-rta, I obviously noticed a bump in vapor production with 1 constraint: coil size.
I put an 8.5 wrap coil in and was noticing dry hit by the end of my puff, so I knocked it down to 7.5 wrap. Here I can make it through my puff, but the next puff will start to dry out if I chain vape. So I do 6.5 wrap.
Now, this took time for me to figure out(slow learner), but my original diagnosis was that these coils were too big for my airflow and chamber to handle. Once I made the connection to the coil drying out, I progressed o the next logical issue: wicking. Getting warmer, but swing and a miss. I tried 3 different wicking techniques (normal wicking, wicking so I can move the cotton around in wicking hole, and that griffin wicking technique where you open a gap by the post to allow air bubbles to go into the tank and let your cotton suck up the juice more easily). Some techniques made a little improvement, but none solved my issue.
Finally, the last horse crossed the finish line, I think.
I feel constrained to 2.5mm diameter claptons because of available deck space and wicking holes. I can cram a 3mm coil in there but it's not fun and I really have to trim off some cotton to fit the wick in the holes, and 3 tries was enough for me to not try it again.
But it makes sense now. The diameter coil is like the diameter of a pipe, the bigger it is, the more liquid can move through it So I conducted an expirement. I wrapped a 2.5 and threw it in my tsunami. Here I ran into the same issue. Then I threw in a 3mm, and noticed a vast improvement in wicking and coil "wetness"
So, It's time for me to upgrade my tank. My g2 has a 16mm deck (I don't like the G4 deck because I have to use kanthal or else my ohms are out of my comfort zone, and I really don't like the taste of kanthal after experiencing SS)
Here are my current nominees, picked for build deck size, chimney size, and price:
TFV8- 18mm deck, 7.75mm chimney (bottom airflow not listed)
Ijoy tornado nano-
deck 17.9mm
airflow 3.5*5.9mm*2
base af 14.2*1.6mm*2
chimney 8.6mm
Smok minos-No data available
Limitless Xl- deck-19.8mm
For under $20, the tornado nano is quickly becoming a must have for me.
I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts and maybe someone with a caliper and a tank could help fill in some gaps in the data.
