Which RDA next? And other silly Q's.

Decided to give rebuildables a try (possibly a mistake) and ordered an IGO-L and an IGO-W4, some precision screwdrivers, kanthal, rayon, magnifier, ohms meter, etc.

The two RDA's showed up on Monday! (poorly focused image below!)

photo(1).jpg

After four hours of tedious work, I successfully backed two of the five screws out, and stripped the heads of the other three screws making them impossible to back out of the posts even if I had the proper tools. Destroyed the heads of each of the precision phillips' screwdrivers in the process as well (obviously they were garbage). A day later I've tried needlenose pliers to try and back the screws out, even superglue and a nail, but none of them have moved even a little bit. Showed up in the mail stuck and forever they shall be, it seems.

So, on to the question! I need a beginner RDA suggestion, AND a direct link to screwdrivers that will work with said RDA.

Feels like I've wasted quite a bit just trying to get started, and being thwarted by the screws was not what I was expecting (I figured I'd mess up on wrapping coils or something, but no! Never got to that point to mess up). I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to try next.

Ordered an Infinite Magma. Hoping for the best this time around - maybe slotted screws will be more idiot proof for me.

Yeah, I was close to giving up but I figured I should at least try one more time. It's tough moving up from clearos to a mech and dripper, but I believe it will be worthwhile when all is said and done. If not, an expensive experiment and I'll have learned something :)

I'm looking forward to the magma for sure, slot screws should be much easier to deal with and less likely for the heads to strip.

Damn, that's rough! Where did you order them from if you don't mind my asking? Locked screws seems like something a decent supplier would be willing to work out a refund on if they're worth going back to.

I guess I'm at about the same point as you, I'm currently dripping on a TOBH v2 (on loan from a good buddy) but I started dripping on an IGO-L (which I managed to destroy entirely by my own fault) and loved it! I also have a magma on it's way :D should be here soon!

The IGO-L was from an ebay vendor, no returns, and I didn't pay enough for it to battle it out honestly. The IGO-W4 was from Vapor beast, and it was on sale for like 5$ so again, can't say it's worth the process. I'm fairly sure I'm mostly to blame for the problems, and I did some fairly drastic things to try and get the screws out after the third day of trying, heh.

Ahhh yup I hear ya :D I'm probably going to grab an IGO-W+ from Kidneypuncher soon (they'll drill the top cap holes out for me since I don't have access to a drill press) just so I can have something else to play around on. I'm just learning how to coil and I've been re-coiling the TOBH every other day or so (sometimes more lol) just so I can try out slightly different builds and because I always wind up jacking up one of my coils when I do a dual. Good luck!

Side note - if you do decide to get another IGO-L or IGO-W the stock air holes are really restrictive, I had a friend drill mine out to 1/8" and it made a world of difference!

What did you do to your IGO-L anendel?

I'm hoping a friend of mine can suss the screws out of the posts on the IGO's I have, and maybe they won't be damaged beyond use. I still want to have a working IGO-L and one of the W series for sure, they seem like great little RDA's for the price. If I manage to get the screws out and replaced on either, I'll definitely have the holes drilled out but probably only a little bit as I'm still a mouth to lunger (which may change this coming week when the Magma and Stingray X arrive!). These IGO's feel VERY tight on the draw though, even the W4 with dual airflow.

Semi OT question, do I NEED to have a vape safe fuse? I'll be using Samsung 25r's and Keeppower IMR batteries, which are considered pretty much OK generally. I probably won't be building anything super low (likely nothing below .5 or .6 and hopefully I'll find a happy build higher than that). If I test my builds and batteries religiously, it seems like I might be okay - seems like a lot of people never mention using fuses.

I love my two IGO W4. Yes the screws are super tight when I received them. I thought I would need a breaker bar to break them loose. I used the best fitting philips screw driver I had and that worked. Although I usually use a slotted screw driver on them since I find are less likely to strip.

That sucks, man. I hope you stick with it, 'cause dripping is the most satisfying vape for me, and you might feel the same.

It is something new to learn, but it's a lot of fun. I'll put my vote in for the Mephisto line and the Mutation X line. Both have done right by me.

What did you do to your IGO-L anendel?

I pulled a dumbass move and forgot that the locking ring on my (now also deceased) Smok extender had to be basically all the way locked down to stop it from firing (since the magnets in the switch started dying after a couple weeks) and put it down with the igo-l on it. Long story short I did not blow up the battery but it was firing for a long while and basically melted everything in the atty

Did you try running super hot water over it and turning the screws? If that doesnt work, lightly torch the columns then try again. Even if you only have a lighter, heat typically breaks everything free. Take out your insulator if you can, or be careful if you cant.
