Allo Kevin! What did you think of the new Who?
Excellent!....(except that Clara isn't in the show anymore :().....Right before that episode, my son and I watched a "special" episode from 2013.....Where Smith, Tennant, and John Heard will all together in the same episode as The Doctor, and they had brought back Billie Piper too......That one was VERY cool too!

So I was considering the new Wismec Predator 228, until I found this thread.

Yeah.....That SUCKS!......but honestly......With the amount of mods that they are "churning out" of China (in the $30-$50 range), as much as it pains me to say it.....I just don't expect that great of quality from them. I would like to think that they are better than they REALLY are, but honestly....It's a crap-shoot at best with most. If a mod lasts me a year for that amount of $$$, then I'm pretty happy with it (considering the amount of times tanks go off and on, battery doors get opened/closed, and buttons get pressed).

$35 ......Do I think it's worth it?.....YES!... Supposed to go up to 200w (although I'll never need or try). (2) 18650's replaceable, Button seems good, screen is cool,.....KEEPS me OFF cigarettes......YES!......Will my 510 connector last?...... Only time will tell .

I'm a big fan of Joyetech, my Cuboid is going on 2 years. Waiting for the Primo 2.0 to hit US shelves, same chip as the Predator.

I have an original RX200 that is still going strong. 2 years old in October, and it has had far from a serene existence.

I would not blame it a bit if it quit long ago. As far as the 510 issue, The one on the Predator sucks. However, I have never seen a Wismec 510 on a RX ( DNA200, RXS, RX2/3, eVic, Cuboid, or Cuboid Mini) that needed more than cleaning.

The design of the Wismec 510 needs to be looked at from an engineering perspective. The 510 is sealed, and has a square spring loaded pin, surrounded by what I think is a polybutyl grommet/spacer/gasket.

Because design dictates that the tank sits atop the mod, and the 510 is the lowest point, any juice spillage will gravitate to the 510. I've seen many dead mods, where the board was drenched in juice one too many times. Never on a Wismec.

The reason people THINK the 510 is crap, is because over time, the juice congeals, and the center pin of the 510 begins to bind against the polybutyl grommet/spacer/gasket. This will definitely affect the connection, causing the problems that people report of the 510. More so in TC mode, where consistent connection is essential.

The cure? Vodka. Not isopropal alchohol. The isopropal degrades the polybutyl grommet/spacer/gasket, and causes it to bind even more. Vodka does not.

From what I see, Wismec's design philosophy is that the 510 will fail before the board. With a high power board, with dual power converters, I have seen evidence of fire from juice saturated boards. Wismec, has chosen what I consider by far the lesser of the 2 evils.

I have 2 spare Wismec 510s, and have needed neither. One, I've torture tested by threading, and seriously torquing a TFV4 into it. Over and over and over. I have not been able to make it fail.

On another forum, I had this discussion with the English fellow who created the original design files for the Fat Daddy 510, and he researched the ethyl alcohol VS isopropol issue, and changed his opinion.

If your Wismec 510 connection becomes erratic, some vodka and a Q-tip is all you need to make it work perfectly again.

As a rule, I agree. Here is the exception.

And if anybody thinks the paint on this is bad, then I'll tale a pic of my Hohmtech Slice. Not even 3 months old, and bare metal showing through not only the preposterous factory puke red/orange, but the black spray paint I hit it with so I would not shoot it.

The Wismec mods I have represent not only the best value for the dollar I benefited from in 2016, for vape gear, but considering the massive improvement, and support that Wismec committed to on these mods in firmware upgrades alone, (and considering that at the time, most mods were not firmware upgrade-able) probably the best value in any consumer electronic device I purchased last year period.

Yea, I'm aware of the issues people have reported, my Hedron has the same 510 as the 300, and looks like the one used in the Predator, but maybe not? I use a Klutch heat sink on all my mods, never have any 510 issues. I would rather ware out the heat sink than the 510.
