why batteries?

Ok I've seen plenty of really good mods go up to like 4500 MAH and 50 watts. Why do the higher mods use 18650s? I will not buy a mod that cannot be charged without a usb, because of what happend to my sigelei 150 watt box mod it almost caught the whole house on fire! I was also going to ask if I would ever have any problems (at all) with the istick 100w TC and its usb charged 18650s. Because I need the watts to fire my higher watt devices but I don't have one anymore.

So my question is will they ever come out with a mod like that? And do I NEED 18650s for high wattage devices (like forever, game over, no question asked). wtf? Why not a 100w istick with no stupid explosives (batteries)? So I have a bunch of questions, and I feel all of this probably pertains to everybody.

Sadly, I don't think it's possible to make a high powered mod without 'explosive' batteries, unless you want to lug around a battery pack the size of a car battery (or just a car battery, lol) to get the amp and volt output. I mean, a standard rechargable AAA battery is 1.2 volts and can only operate at 1amp for 30 mins. How many would you need to get as much usage out of AAA batteries as you do from one 18650? Would at least need 20 in parallel to get the 20 amps. Then that parallel set of 20 quadrupled in series to get 4.8 volts. 80 batteries just for 30 mins worth of usage @ a 20 amp draw. (for others that read, feel free to correct me if i accidentally flipped the series/parallel)
On a side note, there is no such thing as not using 'explosive' batteries. Every battery can explode if shorted/over heated, even AAA batteries.

You don't want to buy a mod that can't be charged via usb for fear of a fire. But USB charged devices can (and have) caught fire as well. Cell phones are a perfect example of this. Lithium batteries like mods with internal batteries, and they caught fire. Sometimes while not even being charged.

There is really no difference between being charged via usb or having removable batteries. Both have the same chance of problems happening if they overheat or get shorted somehow. But at least with removable batteries, they can be replaced if something goes wrong.

to sum it up, his Genitank wasn't working on his mod, so tried it on his Sig 150, where it didn't work either.
Then it started smoking and burning from the bottom of the battery compartment.
He didn't reply to most of the questions asked or reply to any specific comments about what might have happened.

(my theory was possibly liquid got into the coils that are visible at the bottom right of the battery compartment and caused a short)

Ahh from re re re reading it, seems like he had something arcing or batteries went tits up in the wrapping.

Personally I regard changeable 18650s safer than an internal cell.

You have no idea of the quality of an Internal cell. If it's sealed in you can't even see it, or get any details to check if it's made by a decent company.

The internal cells in some mods, excluding those that use LiPo packs, are actually 18650s. The istick 50W and the Smok M80+ used two 18650s with soldered/spot welded connections.

In the grand scheme of things, you're in my opinion much safer using quality major OEM 18650s and a good quality charger. Out of a mod costing say 50 dollars, and a dedicated charger costing 30 dollars, which would you expect to be better made/engineered? They've definitely not put 30 dollars worth of independent channel high quality charging circuitry into a 50 dollar device.

Bad experiences happen. You don't give enough detail about what went wrong when you were using separate cells in your Sigelei for anyone to comment on that. With a good quality charger, good cells and by inserting them into a mod with care, always checking the condition of the cell wrappers, there's very little that can go wrong.

People everywhere are distrust ing of re wrapped batteries. I'm equally as distrust ing of integrated batteries of unknown origin. If I use my own charger and my own good quality batteries, the only potential weak point is the mod itself. If something does go wrong, I know that my Samsung and LG batteries are very unlikely to have caused the issue.
